『在這七月十日、你們要有聖聚會，要刻苦自己；甚麼工都不可作，

“七月初十日，你们当有圣会；要刻苦己心，什么工都不可做。

“七月初十，你们当有圣会；要刻苦己心，任何工都不可做。

“七月初十，你们当有圣会；要刻苦己心，任何工都不可做。

“七月十日，你们要举行圣会，禁食，不可工作。

“‘在七月十日，你们要有圣会，刻苦己心，什么都不可作，

「七月初十日，你們當有聖會；要刻苦己心，甚麼工都不可做。

「七月初十，你們當有聖會；要刻苦己心，任何工都不可做。

「七月初十，你們當有聖會；要刻苦己心，任何工都不可做。

「七月十日，你們要舉行聖會，禁食，不可工作。

“‘在七月十日，你們要有聖會，刻苦己心，甚麼都不可作，

七月十日、必有聖會、當苦其心、勿操作、

七月十日、必有聖會、咸止工作、卑以自牧、

七月十日、爾當有聖會、必刻苦齋戒、無論何工、悉毋作、

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves and do no work.

“‘ On the tenth day of the seventh month, come together for a special service. You must not eat anything on that day. You must not do any work on it.

“ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation and afflict yourselves. You shall do no work,

“ Ten days later, on the tenth day of the same month, you must call another holy assembly. On that day, the Day of Atonement, the people must go without food and must do no ordinary work.

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; do not do any work.

‘ Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy assembly, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work.

‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls; you shall not do any work.

And on the tenth day of this seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall do no manner of work;

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; you must not do any work.

And ye shall have on the tenth[ day] of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work[ therein]:

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you are to have a holy assembly. You must humble yourselves; you must not do any work on it.

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work;

至於我呢、我在他們有病時、卻穿着麻衣，以禁食刻苦自己。我所祈禱的都回到自己懷中。

『每逢七月初十日、你們總要刻苦自己，無論是本地人、是寄居在你們中間的外僑、一切的工都不可作；這要給你們做永遠的條例。因為在這一日要給你們行除罪禮，使你們潔淨；你們要在永恆主面前得潔淨、脫離一切的罪。這一日你們要守為完全歇工的安息日；要刻苦自己；這是永遠的條例。

過了好久，航行已經不穩當了，又因為禁食節期已經過去，保羅就勸告眾人

那時我在亞哈瓦河邊那裏宣告禁食，為要在我們的上帝面前刻苦自己，祈求他使我們和我們的小孩跟一切活財物都得了平坦的路。

不是的，我告訴你們；你們若不悔改，都必照樣滅亡。』

他們說：「為甚麼我們禁食，而你不看呢？為甚麼我們刻苦自己，而你不理會呢？」嘿，你們禁食的日子、仍然追求所喜歡作的事！逕自壓迫一切為你們作苦工的人！嘿，你們禁食、只為的是吵鬧和爭競，拿兇惡的拳頭打人呀！像你們今天這樣的禁食並不能使你們的聲音在高天得聽到呀。我所選擇、使人刻苦自己的日子難道是這樣的禁食麼？難道只是叫人垂頭像燈心草，拿麻布和爐灰當床鋪麼？難道你要把這樣叫做禁食，作為使永恆主悅納的日子麼？我所選擇的真禁食豈不是以下這些行為：

因為知道我們的舊人已經和他同釘十字架，使罪的身體無能為力，叫我們不再給罪做奴僕；

永恆主告訴摩西說：『七月初十日、是除罪日；你們要有聖聚會，要刻苦自己，要將火祭獻與永恆主。在這一天、甚麼工都不可作；因為這是除罪日，是要在永恆主你們的上帝面前為你們行除罪禮的。在這一天、凡不刻苦的人、就必在他的族人中被剪除。在這一天、人無論作甚麼工，我必將那人從他的族人中殺滅掉。甚麼工你們都不可作；這在你們一切的住所要做你們世世代代永遠的條例。你們要守完全歇工的安息，要刻苦自己；在這月初九日晚上、從當天晚上到次日晚上、你們要守你們的安息日。』

當那日子、主萬軍之永恆主叫人哀哭號咷，頭上光禿，腰束麻布；

我乃是痛打我的身體，驅使它做奴僕，恐怕我宣傳給別人，自己反成了不中用的！

不是的，我告訴你們；你們若不悔改，都必這樣滅亡。

我必將恩慈之靈和懇求之靈傾注於大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民；他們必瞻望着他，就是他們所刺透的；他們必為他號哭，像喪獨生子而號哭一樣；也必為他憂苦，像喪長子而憂苦一樣。

願流淚撒播的、歡呼地收割。願那帶着撒種的種子、哭着出去的、帶着禾捆、歡呼地回來。

如今我歡喜，倒不是因為你們憂愁，乃是因為你們憂愁到懊悔。你們依順着上帝而憂愁，就不至於在甚麼事上因我們而有所虧損了。因為依順着上帝而有的憂愁能生出不後悔的懺悔來、以至於得救；而世俗的憂愁卻能生出死亡。你看，你們依順着上帝而憂愁，這在你們中間已生出了何等的熱切、何等的分訴、何等的憤慨、何等的危懼、何等的切慕、何等的熱誠、何等的公正責罰啊！在各方面、你們都證明自己在那事上清清白白。

你們親近上帝，上帝就親近你們。罪人哪，潔淨你們的手吧；心懷二意的人哪，使你們的心清潔吧。你們要愁苦，要哀慟，要哭泣。讓你們的喜笑變為哀慟吧；你們的喜樂變為意氣銷沉吧！你們要在主面前自己謙卑，主就使你們升高。

請教於萬軍之永恆主殿中的祭司們和神言人們說：『我們是不是還要在五月間守着哀哭和離俗禮，像我們歷年來所行的呢？』

哀慟的人有福啊！因為他們必得安慰。
