Moses answered,“ The people come to me to find out what God wants them to do.Anytime they don’t agree with one another, they come to me. I decide between them. I tell them about God’s rules and instructions.”Moses’ father- in- law replied,“ What you are doing isn’t good.You will just get worn out. And so will these people who come to you. There’s too much work for you. You can’t possibly handle it by yourself.Listen to me. I’ll give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must speak to God for the people. Take their problems to him.

The people kept her son under guard until they could find out what the Lord wanted them to do.Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said,

The ark is where the tablets of the covenant law are kept. I will meet with you above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark. There I will give you all my commands for the Israelites.

I would state my case to him. I’d give him all my arguments.

They kept him under guard. It wasn’t clear what should be done to him.

Moses answered them,“ Wait until I find out what the Lord wants you to do.”

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.In all your ways obey him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight.
