He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

You shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be on Aaron’s heart, when he goes in before Yahweh. Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel on his heart before Yahweh continually.

When Saul inquired of Yahweh, Yahweh didn’t answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.

The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.

The governor told that they should not eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to minister with Urim and Thummim.

He inquired of Yahweh for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob; and they all came to the king.Saul said,“ Hear now, you son of Ahitub.” He answered,“ Here I am, my lord.”Saul said to him,“ Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said,“ Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son- in- law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knows nothing of all this, less or more.”

The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying,“ Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said,“ Go up against him.”

who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, that the congregation of Yahweh may not be as sheep which have no shepherd.”

David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech,“ Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

About Levi he said,“ Your Thummim and your Urim are with your godly one, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you contended at the waters of Meribah.

David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod here.”

The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked,“ Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said,“ Judah first.”

After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying,“ Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”

The governor told them that they should not eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to serve with Urim and with Thummim.

Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.The children of Israel asked Yahweh( for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying,“ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said,“ Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”

He placed the breastplate on him. He put the Urim and Thummim in the breastplate.
