He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

He will stand before the priest Eleazar who will consult the LORD for him with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command.”

又要將烏陵和土明放在決斷胸袋裏；亞倫進到耶和華面前的時候，要放在心上。這樣，亞倫在耶和華面前要把以色列人的決斷胸袋常常帶着，放在心上。」

掃羅求問耶和華，耶和華卻不藉夢，或烏陵，或先知回答他。

以色列人收下他們的一些食物，但是沒有求問耶和華的指示。

省長對他們說，不可吃至聖的物，直到有會用烏陵和土明的祭司興起來。

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，給他食物，又把非利士人歌利亞的刀給了他。」王就派人把亞希突的兒子亞希米勒祭司和他父親的全家，就是在挪伯的祭司都召了來，他們都來到王那裏。掃羅說：「亞希突的兒子，聽着！」他說：「我主，我在這裏。」掃羅對他說：「你為甚麼與耶西的兒子結黨害我，把食物和刀給他，又為他求問上帝，使他起來謀害我，像今日這樣？」亞希米勒回答王說：「王的眾臣僕中有誰比大衛忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是你的侍衛長，並且是你宮中受敬重的人。我今日才開始為他求問上帝嗎？絕非如此！王不要歸罪於我和我父全家，因為這事，無論大小，僕人都不知情。」

因以色列人上去，在耶和華面前哀哭，直到晚上。他們求問耶和華說：「我可以再出兵與我弟兄便雅憫人打仗嗎？」耶和華說：「可以上去攻打他們。」

可以在他們面前出入，引導他們進出，免得耶和華的會眾如同沒有牧人的羊羣一般。」

大衛對亞希米勒的兒子亞比亞他祭司說：「請你把以弗得拿來給我。」亞比亞他就把以弗得拿給大衛。

關於利未，他說：『願你的土明和烏陵都在你的虔誠人那裏。你在瑪撒曾考驗他，在米利巴水與他爭論。

大衛知道掃羅設計陷害他，就對亞比亞他祭司說：「把以弗得拿過來。」

以色列人起來，上到伯特利去求問上帝說：「我們中間誰當首先上去與便雅憫人爭戰呢？」耶和華說：「猶大先上去。」

約書亞死後，以色列人求問耶和華說：「我們中間誰當首先上去攻打迦南人，與他們爭戰呢？」

省長對他們說，不可吃至聖的物，直到有會用烏陵和土明的祭司興起來。

以色列眾人和全體士兵上到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哭泣。那日，他們禁食直到晚上，又在耶和華面前獻燔祭和平安祭。以色列人去求問耶和華；那時，上帝的約櫃在那裏。那時，亞倫的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈侍立在約櫃前。他們說：「我可以再出去與我弟兄便雅憫人打仗嗎？還是停戰呢？」耶和華說：「你們可以上去，因為明日我必把他交在你手中。」

他又給亞倫戴上胸袋，把烏陵和土明放在胸袋內。
