He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

又要將烏陵和土明放在決斷的胸牌裏；亞倫進到耶和華面前的時候，要帶在胸前，在耶和華面前常將以色列人的決斷牌帶在胸前。」

掃羅求問耶和華，耶和華卻不藉夢，或烏陵，或先知回答他。

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，又給他食物，並給他殺非利士人歌利亞的刀。」王就打發人將祭司亞希突的兒子亞希米勒和他父親的全家，就是住挪伯的祭司都召了來；他們就來見王。掃羅說：「亞希突的兒子，要聽我的話！」他回答說：「主啊，我在這裏。」掃羅對他說：「你為甚麼與耶西的兒子結黨害我，將食物和刀給他，又為他求問神，使他起來謀害我，就如今日的光景？」亞希米勒回答王說：「王的臣僕中有誰比大衛忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是王的參謀，並且在王家中是尊貴的。我豈是從今日才為他求問神呢？斷不是這樣！王不要將罪歸我和我父的全家；因為這事，無論大小，僕人都不知道。」

未擺陣之先，以色列人上去，在耶和華面前哭號，直到晚上，求問耶和華說：「我們再去與我們弟兄便雅憫人打仗可以不可以？」耶和華說：「可以上去攻擊他們。」

可以在他們面前出入，也可以引導他們，免得耶和華的會眾如同沒有牧人的羊羣一般。」

大衛對亞希米勒的兒子祭司亞比亞他說：「請你將以弗得拿過來。」亞比亞他就將以弗得拿到大衛面前。

論利未說：耶和華啊，你的土明和烏陵都在你的虔誠人那裏。你在瑪撒曾試驗他，在米利巴水與他爭論。

大衛知道掃羅設計謀害他，就對祭司亞比亞他說：「將以弗得拿過來。」

以色列人就起來，到伯特利去求問神說：「我們中間誰當首先上去與便雅憫人爭戰呢？」耶和華說：「猶大當先上去。」

約書亞死後，以色列人求問耶和華說：「我們中間誰當首先上去攻擊迦南人，與他們爭戰？」

省長對他們說：「不可吃至聖的物，直到有用烏陵和土明決疑的祭司興起來。」

以色列眾人就上到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哭號，當日禁食直到晚上；又在耶和華面前獻燔祭和平安祭。那時，神的約櫃在那裏；亞倫的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈侍立在約櫃前。以色列人問耶和華說：「我們當再出去與我們弟兄便雅憫人打仗呢？還是罷兵呢？」耶和華說：「你們當上去，因為明日我必將他們交在你們手中。」

又給他戴上胸牌，把烏陵和土明放在胸牌內，
