He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，給他糧食，又把非利士人歌利亞的刀給他。”掃羅就派人去把亞希突的兒子，亞希米勒祭司和他父親的全家，就是在挪伯的眾祭司，都召了來；他們眾人都來見王。掃羅說：“亞希突的兒子啊！你要聽。”他回答：“我主啊！我在這裡。”掃羅對他說：“你為甚麼與耶西的兒子合謀陷害我？把食物和刀給他，又為他求問神，使他起來陷害我，就像今天一樣呢？”亞希米勒回答王說：“在你所有的臣僕中，有誰像大衛那樣忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是你的衛隊的隊長(按照《馬索拉文本》，「又是你的衛隊的隊長」作「又是轉離去聽從你」；現參照《七十士譯本》和《他爾根》翻譯)，並且在你朝中是受敬重的。我豈是今天才開始為他求問神的呢？絕對不是。請王不要歸罪於我和我父的全家，因為這整件事無論大小，我都不知道。”

事前，以色列人上伯特利去，在耶和華面前哀哭直到晚上，然後求問耶和華，說：“我們再去與我們的兄弟便雅憫人交戰，可以不可以？”耶和華說：“你們可以上去攻打他們。”

可以在他們面前出入；帶領他們出入，免得耶和華的會眾好像沒有牧人的羊一樣。”

大衛對亞希米勒的兒子、亞比亞他祭司說：“請你把以弗得帶到我這裡來。”亞比亞他就把以弗得帶到大衛那裡去。

論到利未，他說：“耶和華啊，願你的土明和烏陵屬於對你忠心的人（原文無“耶和華啊”，但因為代名詞“你”是指耶和華而不是利未，所以按文理補上，以免誤導），就是你在瑪撒試驗過的，在米利巴水邊與他們爭論過的。

大衛知道掃羅設計害他，就對亞比亞他祭司說：“把以弗得拿來！”

以色列人就起來，上伯特利去求問神，說：“我們之中誰應首先上去，與便雅憫人交戰呢？”耶和華說：“猶大應首先上去。”

約書亞死後，以色列人求問耶和華說：“誰要為我們首先去攻打迦南人，與他們作戰呢？”

省長告訴他們不可吃至聖之物，直等到有能用烏陵和土明來決疑的祭司興起來。

以色列眾人，就是全體人民，又上到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哀哭，那日禁食直到晚上，然後在耶和華面前獻上燔祭和平安祭。那時，神的約櫃在那裡。那時，亞倫的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，侍立在約櫃前供職。以色列人求問耶和華，說：“我們應再出去與我們的兄弟便雅憫人交戰呢？還是休戰呢？”耶和華說：“你們應上去，因為明天我必把他們交在你們手中。”

又給他佩上胸牌，把烏陵和土明放在胸牌裡面，
