He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

亚希米勒为他求问耶和华，给他粮食，又把非利士人歌利亚的刀给他。”扫罗就派人去把亚希突的儿子，亚希米勒祭司和他父亲的全家，就是在挪伯的众祭司，都召了来；他们众人都来见王。扫罗说：“亚希突的儿子啊！你要听。”他回答：“我主啊！我在这里。”扫罗对他说：“你为什么与耶西的儿子合谋陷害我？把食物和刀给他，又为他求问神，使他起来陷害我，就像今天一样呢？”亚希米勒回答王说：“在你所有的臣仆中，有谁像大卫那样忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是你的卫队的队长(按照《马索拉文本》，「又是你的卫队的队长」作「又是转离去听从你」；现参照《七十士译本》和《他尔根》翻译)，并且在你朝中是受敬重的。我岂是今天才开始为他求问神的呢？绝对不是。请王不要归罪于我和我父的全家，因为这整件事无论大小，我都不知道。”

事前，以色列人上伯特利去，在耶和华面前哀哭直到晚上，然后求问耶和华，说：“我们再去与我们的兄弟便雅悯人交战，可以不可以？”耶和华说：“你们可以上去攻打他们。”

可以在他们面前出入；带领他们出入，免得耶和华的会众好像没有牧人的羊一样。”

大卫对亚希米勒的儿子、亚比亚他祭司说：“请你把以弗得带到我这里来。”亚比亚他就把以弗得带到大卫那里去。

论到利未，他说：“耶和华啊，愿你的土明和乌陵属于对你忠心的人（原文无“耶和华啊”，但因为代名词“你”是指耶和华而不是利未，所以按文理补上，以免误导），就是你在玛撒试验过的，在米利巴水边与他们争论过的。

大卫知道扫罗设计害他，就对亚比亚他祭司说：“把以弗得拿来！”

以色列人就起来，上伯特利去求问神，说：“我们之中谁应首先上去，与便雅悯人交战呢？”耶和华说：“犹大应首先上去。”

约书亚死后，以色列人求问耶和华说：“谁要为我们首先去攻打迦南人，与他们作战呢？”

省长告诉他们不可吃至圣之物，直等到有能用乌陵和土明来决疑的祭司兴起来。

以色列众人，就是全体人民，又上到伯特利，坐在耶和华面前哀哭，那日禁食直到晚上，然后在耶和华面前献上燔祭和平安祭。那时，神的约柜在那里。那时，亚伦的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，侍立在约柜前供职。以色列人求问耶和华，说：“我们应再出去与我们的兄弟便雅悯人交战呢？还是休战呢？”耶和华说：“你们应上去，因为明天我必把他们交在你们手中。”

又给他佩上胸牌，把乌陵和土明放在胸牌里面，
