He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

又要把烏陵和土明放在胸牌裡面，亞倫到耶和華面前的時候，要佩帶這胸牌，以便明白上帝的旨意，為以色列人做決定。

就求問耶和華，但耶和華沒有藉著夢、烏陵或先知回答他。

以色列人接受了他們的食物，卻沒有求問耶和華。

省長吩咐他們不可吃至聖之物，直到使用烏陵和土明的祭司出現。

亞希米勒為他求問耶和華，給他食物，還把非利士人歌利亞的刀給了他。」於是，掃羅派人把挪伯的祭司——亞希突的兒子亞希米勒及其家人都召來。他們都來到王面前。掃羅說：「亞希突的兒子，聽著！」亞希米勒答道：「我主啊，我在這裡。」掃羅說：「你為什麼和耶西的兒子一同謀害我？你為什麼把食物和刀給他，又為他求問耶和華，使他像今天這樣背叛我，伺機害我呢？」亞希米勒答道：「王的臣僕中有誰像大衛那樣忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是王的護衛長，在王室中受尊重。那也不是我第一次為他求問耶和華，求王不要因這事加罪於我或我的家人，因為我根本不知道謀反的事。」

列陣之前，他們在耶和華面前一直哀哭到晚上。他們求問耶和華，說：「我們應該再去攻打我們的同胞便雅憫人嗎？」耶和華說：「可以去。」

帶領他們或進或退，免得你的會眾像沒有牧人的羊群。」

大衛吩咐亞希米勒的兒子亞比亞他祭司把以弗得拿來，亞比亞他就拿給他。

摩西祝福利未支派說：「耶和華啊，求你把土明和烏陵賜給虔誠的利未人，你曾經在瑪撒試驗他們，在米利巴泉邊與他們爭論。

大衛知道了掃羅的計謀，便吩咐祭司亞比亞他把以弗得帶來，

以色列人到伯特利去求問上帝，說：「我們當中哪個支派應當先去攻打便雅憫人呢？」耶和華說：「猶大支派。」

約書亞去世以後，以色列人求問耶和華：「我們哪一個支派先上去攻打迦南人呢？」

省長吩咐他們，要等到用烏陵和土明求問上帝的祭司出現後，才可以吃至聖之物。

以色列全軍來到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哀哭，那天他們一直禁食到晚上，又在耶和華面前獻上燔祭和平安祭。那時，上帝的約櫃就在那裡，亞倫的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈任祭司。以色列人求問耶和華，說：「我們應該再去攻打我們的同胞便雅憫人嗎？還是退兵？」耶和華說：「去攻打吧，因為明天我必把他們交在你們手中。」

然後給他戴上胸牌，把烏陵和土明放在胸牌內，
