He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

又要把乌陵和土明放在胸牌里面，亚伦到耶和华面前的时候，要佩带这胸牌，以便明白上帝的旨意，为以色列人做决定。

就求问耶和华，但耶和华没有借着梦、乌陵或先知回答他。

以色列人接受了他们的食物，却没有求问耶和华。

省长吩咐他们不可吃至圣之物，直到使用乌陵和土明的祭司出现。

亚希米勒为他求问耶和华，给他食物，还把非利士人歌利亚的刀给了他。”于是，扫罗派人把挪伯的祭司——亚希突的儿子亚希米勒及其家人都召来。他们都来到王面前。扫罗说：“亚希突的儿子，听着！”亚希米勒答道：“我主啊，我在这里。”扫罗说：“你为什么和耶西的儿子一同谋害我？你为什么把食物和刀给他，又为他求问耶和华，使他像今天这样背叛我，伺机害我呢？”亚希米勒答道：“王的臣仆中有谁像大卫那样忠心呢？他是王的女婿，又是王的护卫长，在王室中受尊重。那也不是我第一次为他求问耶和华，求王不要因这事加罪于我或我的家人，因为我根本不知道谋反的事。”

列阵之前，他们在耶和华面前一直哀哭到晚上。他们求问耶和华，说：“我们应该再去攻打我们的同胞便雅悯人吗？”耶和华说：“可以去。”

带领他们或进或退，免得你的会众像没有牧人的羊群。”

大卫吩咐亚希米勒的儿子亚比亚他祭司把以弗得拿来，亚比亚他就拿给他。

摩西祝福利未支派说：“耶和华啊，求你把土明和乌陵赐给虔诚的利未人，你曾经在玛撒试验他们，在米利巴泉边与他们争论。

大卫知道了扫罗的计谋，便吩咐祭司亚比亚他把以弗得带来，

以色列人到伯特利去求问上帝，说：“我们当中哪个支派应当先去攻打便雅悯人呢？”耶和华说：“犹大支派。”

约书亚去世以后，以色列人求问耶和华：“我们哪一个支派先上去攻打迦南人呢？”

省长吩咐他们，要等到用乌陵和土明求问上帝的祭司出现后，才可以吃至圣之物。

以色列全军来到伯特利，坐在耶和华面前哀哭，那天他们一直禁食到晚上，又在耶和华面前献上燔祭和平安祭。那时，上帝的约柜就在那里，亚伦的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈任祭司。以色列人求问耶和华，说：“我们应该再去攻打我们的同胞便雅悯人吗？还是退兵？”耶和华说：“去攻打吧，因为明天我必把他们交在你们手中。”

然后给他戴上胸牌，把乌陵和土明放在胸牌内，
