Joshua, the son of Nun, was filled with wisdom. That’s because Moses had placed his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to Joshua. They did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

He was the son of Nun. Joshua had been Moses’ helper from the time he was young. He said,“ Moses! Please stop them!”But Moses replied,“ Are you jealous for me? I wish that all the Lord’ s people were prophets. And I wish that the Lord would put his Spirit on them.”

Then Moses sent for Joshua. Moses spoke to him in front of all the Israelites. He said,“ Be strong and brave. You must go with these people. They are going into the land the Lord promised to give to their people of long ago. You must divide it up among them. They will each receive their share.The Lord himself will go ahead of you. That is for the good of all.To some people the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge.To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing.To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages.All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.
