耶穌出來，見有一大羣的人，就憐憫他們，因為他們如同羊沒有牧人一般，於是開始教導他們許多事。

他看見一大羣人，就憐憫他們；因為他們困苦無助，如同羊沒有牧人一樣。

米該雅說：「我看見以色列眾人散佈在山上，如同沒有牧人的羊羣一般。耶和華說：『這些人沒有主人，他們可以平安地各自回家去。』」

現在，求你賜我智慧聰明，好在這百姓面前出入；不然，誰能判斷你這麼多的百姓呢？」

因為家中神像所言的是虛空，占卜者所見的是虛假，他們講說假夢，徒然安慰人。所以眾人如羊流離，因無牧人就受欺壓。

現在，耶和華－我的上帝啊，你使僕人接續我父親大衛作王；但我是幼小的孩子，不知道應當怎樣出入。

使我們像列國一樣，有王治理我們，率領我們，為我們爭戰。」

所以掃羅叫大衛離開自己，立他為千夫長，他就領兵出入。

看門的給他開門，羊也聽他的聲音。他按着名叫自己的羊，把羊領出來。當他把自己的羊都放出來，就走在前面，羊也跟着他，因為牠們認得他的聲音。
