If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”

Suppose his father doesn’t have any brothers. Then give his property to the nearest male relative in his family group. It will belong to him. That is what the law will require of the Israelites. It is just as the Lord commanded me.’ ”

These are legal requirements for you to observe from generation to generation, wherever you may live.

That way she can have children who will carry on her husband’s name and keep the land in the family.”“ Then I can’t redeem it,” the family redeemer replied,“ because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it.”

an uncle, or a cousin. In fact, anyone from the extended family may buy them back. They may also redeem themselves if they have prospered.

If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relative should buy it back for him.

From then on David made this a decree and regulation for Israel, and it is still followed today.
