If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”

Suppose his father doesn’t have any brothers. Then give his property to the nearest male relative in his family group. It will belong to him. That is what the law will require of the Israelites. It is just as the Lord commanded me.’ ”

So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that[ is] in Anathoth, which[ is] in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance[ is] thine, and the redemption[ is] thine; buy[ it] for thyself. And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which[ was] our brother Elimelech’s:And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy[ it] before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem[ it], redeem[ it]: but if thou wilt not redeem[ it, then] tell me, that I may know: for[ there is] none to redeem[ it] beside thee; and I[ am] after thee. And he said, I will redeem[ it].Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy[ it] also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem[ it] for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem[ it].

Either his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or[ any] that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.

If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away[ some] of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold.

And it was[ so] from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.
