For the Lord had told those Israelites they would surely die in the wilderness, and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

The Lord had told the Israelites at Kadesh Barnea that they would certainly die in the desert. Not one of them was left alive except Caleb and Joshua. Caleb was the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua was the son of Nun.

其中惟有嫩的儿子约书亚和耶孚尼的儿子迦勒仍然存活。

但他们中间多半是神不喜欢的人，所以在旷野倒毙。这些事都是我们的鉴戒，叫我们不要贪恋恶事，像他们那样贪恋的；

你们告诉他们，耶和华说：‘我指着我的永生起誓，我必要照你们达到我耳中的话待你们。你们的尸首必倒在这旷野，并且你们中间凡被数点、从二十岁以外、向我发怨言的，必不得进我起誓应许叫你们住的那地；惟有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚才能进去。

可见，神的恩慈和严厉向那跌倒的人是严厉的，向你是有恩慈的，只要你长久在他的恩慈里；不然，你也要被砍下来。

神四十年之久，又厌烦谁呢？岂不是那些犯罪、尸首倒在旷野的人吗？又向谁起誓，不容他们进入他的安息呢？岂不是向那些不信从的人吗？

我耶和华说过，我总要这样待这一切聚集敌我的恶会众；他们必在这旷野消灭，在这里死亡。’”

从前主救了他的百姓出埃及地，后来就把那些不信的灭绝了。这一切的事，你们虽然都知道，我却仍要提醒你们。

你使人归于尘土，说：“你们世人要归回。”在你看来，千年如已过的昨日，又如夜间的一更。你叫他们如水冲去；他们如睡一觉。早晨，他们如生长的草，早晨发芽生长，晚上割下枯干。我们因你的怒气而消灭，因你的忿怒而惊惶。

他们断不得看见我向他们的祖宗所起誓应许之地。凡藐视我的，一个也不得看见；惟独我的仆人迦勒，因他另有一个心志，专一跟从我，我就把他领进他所去过的那地；他的后裔也必得那地为业。

那时，犹大人来到吉甲见约书亚，有基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒对约书亚说：“耶和华在加低斯巴尼亚指着我与你对神人摩西所说的话，你都知道了。耶和华的仆人摩西从加低斯巴尼亚打发我窥探这地，那时我正四十岁；我按着心意回报他。然而，同我上去的众弟兄使百姓的心消化；但我专心跟从耶和华我的神。当日摩西起誓说：‘你脚所踏之地定要归你和你的子孙永远为业，因为你专心跟从耶和华我的神。’自从耶和华对摩西说这话的时候，耶和华照他所应许的使我存活这四十五年；其间以色列人在旷野行走。看哪，现今我八十五岁了，

“你上这亚巴琳山中的尼波山去，在摩押地与耶利哥相对，观看我所要赐给以色列人为业的迦南地。你必死在你所登的山上，归你列祖去，像你哥哥亚伦死在何珥山上，归他的列祖一样。

自从离开加低斯巴尼亚，到过了撒烈溪的时候，共有三十八年，等那世代的兵丁都从营中灭尽，正如耶和华向他们所起的誓。耶和华的手也攻击他们，将他们从营中除灭，直到灭尽。

以色列人从兰塞起行，往疏割去；除了妇人孩子，步行的男人约有六十万。
