David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.

Then David said to Ornan,“ Give me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to Yahweh on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”

Moses said to the judges of Israel,“ Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”

Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds. The plague broke in on them.Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment, so the plague was stopped.That was credited to him for righteousness, for all generations to come.

“ Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.
