摩西對亞倫說：「拿你的香爐，把壇上的火盛在其中，又加上香，快快帶到會眾那裏，為他們贖罪；因為有忿怒從耶和華那裏出來，瘟疫已經發作了。」亞倫照着摩西所說的拿來，跑到會中，不料，瘟疫在百姓中已經發作了。他就加上香，為百姓贖罪。他站在活人死人中間，瘟疫就止住了。

大衛在那裏為耶和華築了一座壇，獻燔祭和平安祭。如此，耶和華垂聽國民所求的，瘟疫在以色列人中就止住了。

大衛對阿珥楠說：「你將這禾場與相連之地賣給我，我必給你足價，我好在其上為耶和華築一座壇，使民間的瘟疫止住。」

於是摩西吩咐以色列的審判官說：「凡屬你們的人，有與巴力‧毗珥連合的，你們各人要把他們殺了。」

他們這樣行，惹耶和華發怒，便有瘟疫流行在他們中間。那時，非尼哈站起，刑罰惡人，瘟疫這才止息。那就算為他的義，世世代代，直到永遠。

「祭司亞倫的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我向以色列人所發的怒消了；因他在他們中間，以我的忌邪為心，使我不在忌邪中把他們除滅。
