摩西对亚伦说：“你要拿着香炉，把坛上的火盛在里头，又加上香，快快带到会众那里去，为他们赎罪，因为有震怒从耶和华面前出来，瘟疫已经开始了。”亚伦照着摩西吩咐的把香炉拿来，跑到会众中间，果然，瘟疫已经在人民中间开始了；他就加上香，为人民赎罪。他站在死人与活人中间，瘟疫就止住了。

于是大卫在那里为耶和华筑了一座坛，献上燔祭和平安祭。这样耶和华垂听了人们为那地的祷告，瘟疫就在以色列人中止住了。

大卫对阿珥楠说：“请把这块禾场的地让给我，我要在这里为耶和华筑一座祭坛，请你算足价银让给我，使民间的瘟疫可以止息。”

于是摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们各人要把与巴力．毗珥连合的人都杀了。”

他们的行为触怒了耶和华，于是有瘟疫在他们中间发生。那时非尼哈站起来，执行刑罚，瘟疫才止息。这就算为他的义，世世代代直到永远。

“亚伦祭司的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的烈怒稍消，不向以色列人发作，因为他在他们中间以我忌邪的心为心，使我不因我忌邪的心把他们消灭。
