巴兰吟诗预言说：“巴勒引我出亚兰，摩押王请我出东山，说，‘来为我咒诅雅各，来斥责以色列！’

巴兰就作歌，说：“巴勒把我从亚兰领出来，摩押王引我出东山，说：‘来吧，为我咒骂雅各，来啊，咒骂以色列。’

Then Balaam spoke his message:“ Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’

Then Balaam spoke the message he had received from God. He said,“ Balak brought me from the land of Aram. The king of Moab sent for me from the mountains in the east.‘ Come,’ he said.‘ Put a curse on Jacob’s people for me. Come. Speak against Israel.’

And Balaam took up his discourse and said,“ From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains:‘ Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!’

This was the message Balaam delivered:“ Balak summoned me to come from Aram; the king of Moab brought me from the eastern hills.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me! Come and announce Israel’s doom.’

Balaam proclaimed his poem: Balak brought me from Aram; the king of Moab, from the eastern mountains:“ Come, put a curse on Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel!”

And he took up his discourse and said,“ From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab’s king from the mountains of the East, saying,‘ Come, declare Jacob cursed for me, And come, curse Israel!’

And he took up his parable, and said, From Aram hath Balak brought me, The king of Moab from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel.

And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east,[ saying], Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

Then Balaam uttered his oracle, saying,“ Balak, the king of Moab, brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying,‘ Come, pronounce a curse on Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’

He took up his parable, and said,“ From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.

Then he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor at Pethor, which is near the River in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying:“ Look, a people has come from Egypt. See, they cover the face of the earth, and are settling next to me!Therefore please come at once, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”

Then he took up his oracle and said:“ The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, The utterance of the man whose eyes are opened,

because they did not meet you with bread and water on the road when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.

Then he took up his oracle and said:“ Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, son of Zippor!

Then he took up his oracle and said:“ Alas! Who shall live when God does this?

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,

Job further continued his discourse, and said:

So he took up his oracle and said:“ The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, And the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;

In that day one shall take up a proverb against you, And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying:‘ We are utterly destroyed! He has changed the heritage of my people; How He has removed it from me! To a turncoat He has divided our fields.’”

And the Philistine said,“ I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”

that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:“ I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.”

Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

“ Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say,‘ Woe to him who increases What is not his— how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?

Then David said to the Philistine,“ You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

“ Son of man, pose a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel,

So when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.

Then he looked on the Kenites, and he took up his oracle and said:“ Firm is your dwelling place, And your nest is set in the rock;

Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight.

for I will certainly honor you greatly, and I will do whatever you say to me. Therefore please come, curse this people for me.’”

and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Padan Aram.

The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.

So the men of Israel said,“ Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and give his father’s house exemption from taxes in Israel.”Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying,“ What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated.

Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother.

‘ Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overpower them and drive them out.’”

Another parable He spoke to them:“ The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord God! They say of me,‘ Does he not speak parables?’”
