Balaam proclaimed his poem: Balak brought me from Aram; the king of Moab, from the eastern mountains:“ Come, put a curse on Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel!”

巴兰便题起诗歌说：“巴勒引我出亚兰，摩押王引我出东山，说：‘来啊，为我咒诅雅各；来啊，怒骂以色列。’

巴兰唱起诗歌说：“巴勒领我出亚兰，摩押王领我出东方的山脉：‘来啊，为我诅咒雅各；来啊，怒骂以色列。’

巴兰唱起诗歌说：“巴勒领我出亚兰，摩押王领我出东方的山脉：‘来啊，为我诅咒雅各；来啊，怒骂以色列。’

巴兰吟诗预言说：“巴勒引我出亚兰，摩押王请我出东山，说，‘来为我咒诅雅各，来斥责以色列！’

巴兰就作歌，说：“巴勒把我从亚兰领出来，摩押王引我出东山，说：‘来吧，为我咒骂雅各，来啊，咒骂以色列。’

巴蘭便題起詩歌說：巴勒引我出亞蘭，摩押王引我出東山，說：來啊，為我咒詛雅各；來啊，怒罵以色列。

巴蘭以詩歌預言說：「巴勒引我出亞蘭，摩押王請我出東山，說，『來為我咒詛雅各，斥責以色列！』

巴蘭就作歌，說：“巴勒把我從亞蘭領出來，摩押王引我出東山，說：‘來吧，為我咒罵雅各，來啊，咒罵以色列。’

巴蘭便發表言論歌來、說：『巴勒領導我出亞蘭，摩押王領導我出東山，說：「來啊，為我咒詛雅各，來啊，怒罵以色列吧！」

乃作歌曰、巴勒招我於亞蘭、摩押王導我於東岳、曰來、為我詛雅各、詈以色列、

乃作歌曰、摩押王、厥名巴勒、招我於亞蘭、導我於東岳、使詛雅各、詈以色列。

Then Balaam spoke his message:“ Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’

Then Balaam spoke the message he had received from God. He said,“ Balak brought me from the land of Aram. The king of Moab sent for me from the mountains in the east.‘ Come,’ he said.‘ Put a curse on Jacob’s people for me. Come. Speak against Israel.’

And Balaam took up his discourse and said,“ From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains:‘ Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!’

This was the message Balaam delivered:“ Balak summoned me to come from Aram; the king of Moab brought me from the eastern hills.‘ Come,’ he said,‘ curse Jacob for me! Come and announce Israel’s doom.’

And he took up his discourse and said,“ From Aram Balak has brought me, Moab’s king from the mountains of the East, saying,‘ Come, declare Jacob cursed for me, And come, curse Israel!’

And he took up his oracle and said:“ Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, From the mountains of the east.‘ Come, curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!’

And he took up his parable, and said, From Aram hath Balak brought me, The king of Moab from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel.

And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east,[ saying], Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

Then Balaam uttered his oracle, saying,“ Balak, the king of Moab, brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying,‘ Come, pronounce a curse on Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’

He took up his parable, and said,“ From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.

he sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor, which is by the Euphrates in the land of his people. Balak said to him,“ Look, a people has come out of Egypt; they cover the surface of the land and are living right across from me.Please come and put a curse on these people for me because they are more powerful than I am. I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that those you bless are blessed and those you curse are cursed.”

and he proclaimed his poem: The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eyes are opened,

This is because they did not meet you with food and water on the journey after you came out of Egypt, and because Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram-naharaim was hired to curse you.

Balaam proclaimed his poem: Balak, get up and listen; son of Zippor, pay attention to what I say!

Once more he proclaimed his poem: Ah, who can live when God does this?

I will declare wise sayings; I will speak mysteries from the past—

In that day one will take up a taunt against you and lament mournfully, saying,“ We are totally ruined! He measures out the allotted land of my people. How he removes it from me! He allots our fields to traitors.”

Then the Philistine said,“ I defy the ranks of Israel today. Send me a man so we can fight each other!”

so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: I will open my mouth in parables; I will declare things kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say,“ Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.”

David said to the Philistine,“ You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel— you have defied him.

“ Son of man, pose a riddle and speak a parable to the house of Israel.

When he taunted Israel, Jonathan, son of David’s brother Shimei, killed him.

Next he saw the Kenites and proclaimed his poem: Your dwelling place is enduring; your nest is set in the cliffs.

Like a flitting sparrow or a fluttering swallow, an undeserved curse goes nowhere.

for I will greatly honor you and do whatever you ask me. So please come and put a curse on these people for me!’”

And Jacob listened to his father and mother and went to Paddan-aram.

Shem’s sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

Previously, an Israelite man had declared,“ Do you see this man who keeps coming out? He comes to defy Israel. The king will make the man who kills him very rich and will give him his daughter. The king will also make the family of that man’s father exempt from paying taxes in Israel.”David spoke to the men who were standing with him:“ What will be done for the man who kills that Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

After him, Eleazar son of Dodo son of an Ahohite was among the three warriors with David when they defied the Philistines. The men of Israel retreated in the place they had gathered for battle,

Go at once to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father. Marry one of the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

‘ Look, a people has come out of Egypt, and they cover the surface of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. I may be able to fight against them and drive them away.’”

He told them another parable:“ The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into fifty pounds of flour until all of it was leavened.”

They were looking for a way to arrest him but feared the crowd because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

Then I said,“ Oh, Lord GOD, they are saying of me,‘ Isn’t he just composing parables?’”
