The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.

Balak’s messengers, who were elders of Moab and Midian, set out with money to pay Balaam to place a curse upon Israel. They went to Balaam and delivered Balak’s message to him.

掃羅問他的僕人：「看，如果我們去，能送給他什麼呢？我們袋裡的食物都吃光了，也沒有禮物可以送給神人。我們還有什麼呢？」僕人回答掃羅，又說：「看哪，我手裡有四分之一謝克爾銀子，我送給神人，他就會把我們的路指示我們。」

他們離開了正道就被迷惑，隨從了比珥的兒子巴蘭的路——這巴蘭喜愛不義的酬報，

因為這樣的人不是服事我們的主基督，而是服事自己的私慾。他們用花言巧語，欺騙單純人的心。

至於那些想發財的人就會陷入試探、網羅以及很多無知有害的欲望裡；這些欲望使人沉溺在敗壞和滅亡中。要知道，貪愛金錢是萬惡之根；有些人戀慕金錢，就被迷惑而離開了信仰，用很多苦痛把自己刺透了。

這些狗非常貪食，不知飽足；他們作為牧人，卻沒有悟性；他們全都偏行己路，各人盡都謀求自己的利益。

他們有禍了！因為他們走了「該隱的路」，又為財利奔上「巴蘭的迷途」，並且在「科拉的背叛」中滅亡了。

必須堵住這些人的口。他們為了不正當的利益，教導不該教導的事，把許多人的整個家庭都破壞了。
