因為你們出了埃及、在路上的時候、他們沒有拿食物和水來迎接你們，又因為他們雇了米所波大米的毘奪人比珥的兒子巴蘭、來和你作對，來咒詛你。

那時摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒起來對以色列人爭戰；他打發人將比珥的兒子巴蘭召了來咒詛你們。

我的子民哪，你們要記得摩押王巴勒所計謀的，和比珥的兒子巴蘭所回答他的，以及你們從什亭到吉甲所遇見的，好使你們知道永恆主的義氣。』

這些人有禍啊！因為他們走該隱的路；為了工錢向着巴蘭的謬妄狂奔；就在可拉的頂撞中滅亡了。

不過我有一點要責備你的，就是你有執守巴蘭教訓的人在你那裏。這巴蘭教導了巴勒將絆跌物丟在以色列人面前，叫他們喫祭偶像之物並行邪淫、變節去拜偶像。

在以色列人所刺死的人以外、他們也用刀殺了比珥的兒子占卜者巴蘭。

巴蘭便發表言論歌來、說：『巴勒領導我出亞蘭，摩押王領導我出東山，說：「來啊，為我咒詛雅各，來啊，怒罵以色列吧！」

我要使你的後裔像地上的塵沙那麼多；若有人能數得清地上的塵沙，你的後裔也就能數得清。

永恆主使他的人民很能生殖，使他們比敵人強盛。

他們既離棄了正直的路，就走迷了，一味隨從比珥的兒子巴蘭的路。巴蘭就是那貪愛不義之工錢的，卻因自己的違法受了斥責。不能出聲說話的驢竟用人的聲音發出言論來，攔阻那神言人的瘋狂！

那時候我們將摩西書誦讀給人民聽，見書上寫着說：亞捫人或摩押人永不可進上帝的公會；這是因為他們沒有拿食物和水來迎接以色列人，並且巴勒反而雇了巴蘭來和他們作對，來咒詛他們；但我們的上帝卻使那咒詛變為祝福。

以色列人生殖，孳生眾多，極其強盛：那地滿是他們的人。當時有新的王起來、治理埃及，跟約瑟不相知。他對他的人民說：『看哪，以色列人眾民繁多強盛，勝過我們。來吧，我們要用巧計來對付他們，恐怕他們增多起來；若遇着戰事，他們就跟恨我們的仇敵聯合、來攻打我們，離開這地而上去。』
