他们大祸临头了！他们步了该隐的后尘，为谋利而重蹈巴兰的谬误，又像可拉一样因叛逆而灭亡。

不过有几件事我要责备你，你那里有人随从巴兰的教导。这巴兰从前教巴勒在以色列人面前布下网罗，使他们吃祭过偶像的食物、犯淫乱的罪。

以色列人所杀的人中有比珥的儿子术士巴兰。

巴兰吟诗预言说：“巴勒引我出亚兰，摩押王请我出东山，说，‘来为我咒诅雅各，来斥责以色列！’

我要使你的后代多如地上的尘土，人若能数算地上的尘土，才能数算你的后代。

耶和华使祂的子民生养众多，比他们的仇敌还要强盛。

他们离弃正道，走入歧途，重蹈比珥之子巴兰先知的覆辙。巴兰贪爱不义之财，因自己的罪而受了责备。不能说话的驴竟然像人一样说起话来，制止了他狂妄的行为。

那天，有人给民众宣读摩西律法书时，发现书上说亚扪人和摩押人永不可加入上帝的会众。因为他们没有用食物和水接待以色列人，还雇巴兰咒诅他们，但我们的上帝将咒诅变为祝福。

以色列人生养众多，人口大增，很快就遍布埃及，成为一个强大的民族。那时，埃及有一位不认识约瑟的新王登基，对他的百姓说：“你们看，以色列人比我们多，又比我们强。来吧！我们要设法阻止他们人口增长，否则一遇到战争，他们便会加入我们敌人的阵营来攻打我们，然后一走了之。”
