他拉緊了弓、好像仇敵；他舉了右手站着、如敵人，將悅人眼目的全都殺戮；在錫安小姐的房屋上他倒出他的烈怒像火一樣。

『看哪，我差遣一個使者在你前面，在路上保護你，領你到我所豫備的地方去。

他和天使較力，竟得了勝；他哭泣向他懇求。是在伯特利他遇見了上帝，是在那裏上帝同他說話——永恆主萬軍之上帝，耶和華是他的名號：

永恆主對何西阿說：『給他起名叫耶斯列，因為再過片時、我必向耶戶家追討在耶斯列殺人流血的罪，也必使以色列家的國滅絕。

永恆主的使者對巴蘭說：『你同這些人去吧；不過我所吩咐你說的話、你只要那樣說就好啦。』於是巴蘭和巴勒的首領一同去。

耶戶說：『要為巴力祝聖一個聖節會。』他們就這樣宣告了。

他就給約瑟祝福說：『願我祖亞伯拉罕我父以撒所奔走伺候的上帝，願自從有了我以來就牧養着我到今日的那上帝，願那贖救了我脫離一切禍患的那天使賜福與這兩個兒童；願他們稱為在我名下、也在我祖亞伯拉罕我父以撒名下的；願他們在全地中生養眾多。』

永恆主的使者從刺叢中火燄裏向他顯現。摩西一看，只見刺叢在火中燒着，而刺叢竟沒有被燒燬！摩西說：『我要過去，看這大異象，為甚麼這刺叢沒有燒掉。』永恆主見摩西過來要看，上帝從刺叢中呼叫他說：『摩西，摩西』；摩西說：『我在這裏呢。』永恆主說：『不可走近這裏來；要把你腳上的鞋脫下，因為你所站的地方是聖地。』又說：『我是你父的上帝，亞伯拉罕的上帝、以撒的上帝、雅各的上帝。』摩西掩着面，因為怕望着上帝。
