That night God came to Balaam and told him,“ Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

That night God came to Balaam and said,“ Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”

That night God came to Balaam. He said,“ These men have come to get you. So go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.”

God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ Since these men have come to summon you, get up and go with them, but you must only do what I tell you.”

And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise and go with them; but you shall do only the thing that I tell you.”

And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men are come to call thee, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.

‘ Even if Balak were to give me his palace filled with silver and gold, I would be powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord.’ I told you that I could say only what the Lord says!

But Balaam replied to Balak,“ Didn’t I tell you that I can do only what the Lord tells me?”

But Balaam replied,“ I will speak only the message that the Lord puts in my mouth.”

But the angel of the Lord told Balaam,“ Go with these men, but say only what I tell you to say.” So Balaam went on with Balak’s officials.

The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes.But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.

This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles.He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies.Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.

And because of your raging against me and your arrogance, which I have heard for myself, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the same road on which you came.”

But before they satisfied their craving, while the meat was yet in their mouths,the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men. He struck down the finest of Israel’s young men.

In my anger I gave you kings, and in my fury I took them away.

So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas.

“ Look,” they told him,“ you are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king to judge us like all the other nations have.”Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance.“ Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied,“ for they are rejecting me, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer.Ever since I brought them from Egypt they have continually abandoned me and followed other gods. And now they are giving you the same treatment.Do as they ask, but solemnly warn them about the way a king will reign over them.”

“ But when you were afraid of Nahash, the king of Ammon, you came to me and said that you wanted a king to reign over you, even though the Lord your God was already your king.All right, here is the king you have chosen. You asked for him, and the Lord has granted your request.“ Now if you fear and worship the Lord and listen to his voice, and if you do not rebel against the Lord’s commands, then both you and your king will show that you recognize the Lord as your God.But if you rebel against the Lord’s commands and refuse to listen to him, then his hand will be as heavy upon you as it was upon your ancestors.“ Now stand here and see the great thing the Lord is about to do.You know that it does not rain at this time of the year during the wheat harvest. I will ask the Lord to send thunder and rain today. Then you will realize how wicked you have been in asking the Lord for a king!”So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people were terrified of the Lord and of Samuel.“ Pray to the Lord your God for us, or we will die!” they all said to Samuel.“ For now we have added to our sins by asking for a king.”

The Lord gave Balaam a message for King Balak. Then he said,“ Go back to Balak and give him my message.”

And the Lord met Balaam and gave him a message. Then he said,“ Go back to Balak and give him my message.”

this message came to me from the Lord:“ Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests?Tell them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin, and then they go to a prophet asking for a message. So I, the Lord, will give them the kind of answer their great idolatry deserves.I will do this to capture the minds and hearts of all my people who have turned from me to worship their detestable idols.’
