God came to Balaam that night, and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, get up and go with them; but the word that I will say to you, that you must do.”

That night God came to Balaam and said,“ Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”

That night God came to Balaam. He said,“ These men have come to get you. So go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.”

That night God came to Balaam and told him,“ Since these men have come for you, get up and go with them. But do only what I tell you to do.”

And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men are come to call thee, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.

‘ If Balak would give me his palace full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD to do either good or evil of my own will, but whatever the LORD tells me I must speak’?

But Balaam replied to Balak,“ Did I not tell you,‘ All that the LORD speaks, I must do’?”

Balaam replied,“ Must I not be careful to speak what the LORD has put in my mouth?”

But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam,“ Go with the men, but you may only speak the word that I will speak to you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

The LORD frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples.The LORD’s decisions stand forever; his plans abide throughout the ages.

The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan’s working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.

Because you rage against me and the uproar you create has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle between your lips, and I will lead you back the way you came.”

They were not yet filled up, their food was still in their mouths,when the anger of God flared up against them. He killed some of the strongest of them; he brought the young men of Israel to their knees.

I granted you a king in my anger, and I will take him away in my wrath!

I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them.

They said to him,“ Look, you are old, and your sons don’t follow your ways. So now appoint over us a king to lead us, just like all the other nations have.”But this request displeased Samuel, for they said,“ Give us a king to lead us.” So Samuel prayed to the LORD.The LORD said to Samuel,“ Do everything the people request of you. For it is not you that they have rejected, but it is me that they have rejected as their king.Just as they have done from the day that I brought them up from Egypt until this very day, they have rejected me and have served other gods. This is what they are also doing to you.So now do as they say. But seriously warn them and make them aware of the policies of the king who will rule over them.”

“ When you saw that King Nahash of the Ammonites was advancing against you, you said to me,‘ No! A king will rule over us’– even though the LORD your God is your king!Now look! Here is the king you have chosen– the one that you asked for! Look, the LORD has given you a king!If you fear the LORD, serving him and obeying him and not rebelling against what he says, and if both you and the king who rules over you follow the LORD your God, all will be well.But if you don’t obey the LORD and rebel against what the LORD says, the hand of the LORD will be against both you and your king.“ So now, take your positions and watch this great thing that the LORD is about to do in your sight.Is this not the time of the wheat harvest? I will call on the LORD so that he makes it thunder and rain. Realize and see what a great sin you have committed before the LORD by asking for a king for yourselves.”So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD made it thunder and rain that day. All the people were very afraid of both the LORD and Samuel.All the people said to Samuel,“ Pray to the LORD your God on behalf of us– your servants– so we won’t die, for we have added to all our sins by asking for a king.”

Then the LORD put a message in Balaam’s mouth and said,“ Return to Balak, and speak what I tell you.”

Then the LORD met Balaam and put a message in his mouth and said,“ Return to Balak, and speak what I tell you.”

The word of the LORD came to me:“ Son of man, these men have erected their idols in their hearts and placed the obstacle leading to their iniquity right before their faces. Should I really allow them to seek me?Therefore speak to them and say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: When any one from the house of Israel erects his idols in his heart and sets the obstacle leading to his iniquity before his face, and then consults a prophet, I the LORD am determined to answer him personally according to the enormity of his idolatry.I will do this in order to capture the hearts of the house of Israel, who have alienated themselves from me on account of all their idols.’
