God said to Balaam,“ You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

上帝曰、爾勿偕往、亦勿詛民、蓋斯民受祝矣、

上帝曰、爾毋與之偕往、爾毋為之詛民、蓋斯民嘗受福矣。

天主諭巴蘭曰、毋偕之往、毋詛斯民、因斯民已蒙福矣、

But God said to Balaam,“ Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.”

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

O my people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.”

But the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loved you.

Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall! Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!

And Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet me, and whatever he shows me I will tell you.” And he went to a bare height,

just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:“ Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.

And Balak said to him,“ Please come with me to another place, from which you may see them. You shall see only a fraction of them and shall not see them all. Then curse them for me from there.”And he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.Balaam said to Balak,“ Stand here beside your burnt offering, while I meet the Lord over there.”

and said,“ By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him,“ Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”

For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel,‘ What has God wrought!’

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

So you, too, please stay here tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me.”And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.”

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds,then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings,that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man;

Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you shall tread upon their backs.”

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
