Israel, however, put him to the sword and took over his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, but only as far as the Ammonites, because their border was fortified.

But Israel put him to death with their swords. They took over his land. They took everything from the Arnon River to the Jabbok River. But they didn’t take over any of the land of the Ammonites. That’s because the Ammonites had built strong forts along their border.

Sihon king of the Amorites, For His mercy endures forever;

“ Moreover You gave them kingdoms and nations, And divided them into districts. So they took possession of the land of Sihon, The land of the king of Heshbon, And the land of Og king of Bashan.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt on the other side of the Jordan, and they fought with you. But I gave them into your hand, that you might possess their land, and I destroyed them from before you.

And they said,“ What one is there from the tribes of Israel who did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord?” And, in fact, no one had come to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly.

And when you came to this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we conquered them.

So Moses gave to the children of Gad, to the children of Reuben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities within the borders, the cities of the surrounding country.And the children of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer,Atroth and Shophan and Jazer and Jogbehah,Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.And the children of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim,Nebo and Baal Meon( their names being changed) and Shibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built.And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he dwelt in it.Also Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its small towns, and called them Havoth Jair.Then Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and he called it Nobah, after his own name.

And to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave from Gilead as far as the River Arnon, the middle of the river as the border, as far as the River Jabbok, the border of the people of Ammon;

Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock; and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that indeed the region was a place for livestock,the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,“ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon,the country which the Lord defeated before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”

From there they moved and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that extends from the border of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan— to Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

Then the men of Ephraim gathered together, crossed over toward Zaphon, and said to Jephthah,“ Why did you cross over to fight against the people of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you with fire!”And Jephthah said to them,“ My people and I were in a great struggle with the people of Ammon; and when I called you, you did not deliver me out of their hands.

These are the kings of the land whom the children of Israel defeated, and whose land they possessed on the other side of the Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the River Arnon to Mount Hermon, and all the eastern Jordan plain:One king was Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon and ruled half of Gilead, from Aroer, which is on the bank of the River Arnon, from the middle of that river, even as far as the River Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites,and the eastern Jordan plain from the Sea of Chinneroth as far as the Sea of the Arabah( the Salt Sea), the road to Beth Jeshimoth, and southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

And the Lord God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they defeated them. Thus Israel gained possession of all the land of the Amorites, who inhabited that country.They took possession of all the territory of the Amorites, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.‘ And now the Lord God of Israel has dispossessed the Amorites from before His people Israel; should you then possess it?

He defeated many nations And slew mighty kings—Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan—And gave their land as a heritage, A heritage to Israel His people.

With the other half-tribe the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses had given them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord had given them:from Aroer which is on the bank of the River Arnon, and the town that is in the midst of the ravine, and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon;all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the children of Ammon;

“ And the Lord said to me,‘ See, I have begun to give Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to possess it, that you may inherit his land.’Then Sihon and all his people came out against us to fight at Jahaz.And the Lord our God delivered him over to us; so we defeated him, his sons, and all his people.We took all his cities at that time, and we utterly destroyed the men, women, and little ones of every city; we left none remaining.We took only the livestock as plunder for ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we took.From Aroer, which is on the bank of the River Arnon, and from the city that is in the ravine, as far as Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us; the Lord our God delivered all to us.Only you did not go near the land of the people of Ammon— anywhere along the River Jabbok, or to the cities of the mountains, or wherever the Lord our God had forbidden us.
