“ You gave them kingdoms and nations, allotting to them even the remotest frontiers. They took over the country of Sihon king of Heshbon and the country of Og king of Bashan.

“‘ I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived east of the Jordan. They fought against you, but I gave them into your hands. I destroyed them from before you, and you took possession of their land.

Then they asked,“ Which one of the tribes of Israel failed to assemble before the Lord at Mizpah?” They discovered that no one from Jabesh Gilead had come to the camp for the assembly.

When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to fight against us, but we defeated them.

Then Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan— the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh and Kiriathaim,as well as Nebo and Baal Meon( these names were changed) and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there.So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.And Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah after himself.

But to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the territory extending from Gilead down to the Arnon Gorge( the middle of the gorge being the border) and out to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the Ammonites.

The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock.So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said,“ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon—the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel— are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.

They set out from there and camped alongside the Arnon, which is in the wilderness extending into Amorite territory. The Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan— Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.

The Ephraimite forces were called out, and they crossed over to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah,“ Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We’re going to burn down your house over your head.”Jephthah answered,“ I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn’t save me out of their hands.

These are the kings of the land whom the Israelites had defeated and whose territory they took over east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge to Mount Hermon, including all the eastern side of the Arabah:Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge— from the middle of the gorge— to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the Ammonites. This included half of Gilead.He also ruled over the eastern Arabah from the Sea of Galilee to the Sea of the Arabah( that is, the Dead Sea), to Beth Jeshimoth, and then southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

“ Then the Lord, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and his whole army into Israel’s hands, and they defeated them. Israel took over all the land of the Amorites who lived in that country,capturing all of it from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the desert to the Jordan.“ Now since the Lord, the God of Israel, has driven the Amorites out before his people Israel, what right have you to take it over?

He struck down many nations and killed mighty kings—Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan—and he gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to his people Israel.

The other half of Manasseh, the Reubenites and the Gadites had received the inheritance that Moses had given them east of the Jordan, as he, the servant of the Lord, had assigned it to them.It extended from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the middle of the gorge, and included the whole plateau of Medeba as far as Dibon,and all the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, out to the border of the Ammonites.

The Lord said to me,“ See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz,the Lord our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, together with his sons and his whole army.At that time we took all his towns and completely destroyed them— men, women and children. We left no survivors.But the livestock and the plunder from the towns we had captured we carried off for ourselves.From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the gorge, even as far as Gilead, not one town was too strong for us. The Lord our God gave us all of them.But in accordance with the command of the Lord our God, you did not encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites, neither the land along the course of the Jabbok nor that around the towns in the hills.
