Israel, however, put him to the sword and took over his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, but only as far as the Ammonites, because their border was fortified.

But Israel put him to death with their swords. They took over his land. They took everything from the Arnon River to the Jabbok River. But they didn’t take over any of the land of the Ammonites. That’s because the Ammonites had built strong forts along their border.

And Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as to the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was strong.

But the Israelites slaughtered them with their swords and occupied their land from the Arnon River to the Jabbok River. They went only as far as the Ammonite border because the boundary of the Ammonites was fortified.

And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy[ endureth] for ever:

Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

And they said, What one[ is there] of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:

And Moses gave unto them,[ even] to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts,[ even] the cities of the country round about.And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,And Nebo, and Baalmeon,( their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which[ was] in it.And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok,[ which is] the border of the children of Ammon;

Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place[ was] a place for cattle;The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,[ Even] the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel,[ is] a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which[ is] in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon[ is] the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that[ were] beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which[ was] at Ashtaroth.

And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.

Now these[ are] the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east:Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon,[ and] ruled from Aroer, which[ is] upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok,[ which is] the border of the children of Ammon;And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain,[ even] the salt sea on the east, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdothpisgah:

And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?

Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan:And gave their land[ for] an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people.

With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward,[ even] as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them;From Aroer, that[ is] upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that[ is] in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.From Aroer, which[ is] by the brink of the river of Arnon, and[ from] the city that[ is] by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not,[ nor] unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
