百姓就與摩西爭鬧，說：「給我們水喝吧！」摩西對他們說：「你們為甚麼與我爭鬧呢？你們為甚麼試探耶和華呢？」

摩西剛說完這些話，他們腳下的地就裂開，地開了裂口，把他們和他們的家眷，以及一切屬可拉的人和財物，都吞了下去。他們和一切屬他們的，都活活墜落陰間；地在他們上面又合攏起來，他們就從會眾中滅亡了。在他們四圍的以色列眾人聽見他們的叫聲，就都逃跑，說：「恐怕地也要把我們吞下去了！」有火從耶和華那裏出來，吞滅了那上香的二百五十人。

全會眾大聲喧嚷，那夜百姓哭號。以色列眾人向摩西和亞倫發怨言，全會眾對他們說：「我們寧願死在埃及地，寧願死在這曠野！

除了因可拉事件死的以外，遭瘟疫死的共有一萬四千七百人。

百姓發怨言，惡言傳達到耶和華的耳中。耶和華聽見了就怒氣發作，耶和華的火在他們中間焚燒，燒燬營的外圍。

摩西所差派去窺探那地的人回來，散佈有關那地的謠言，使全會眾向摩西發怨言，這些散佈謠言的人都遭受瘟疫，死在耶和華面前。

但肉在他們牙間還未咀嚼時，耶和華的怒氣向百姓發作，用極重的災禍擊殺百姓。那地方就叫基博羅‧哈他瓦，因為他們在那裏埋葬了貪慾的百姓。

以色列全會眾在曠野向摩西和亞倫發怨言。以色列人對他們說：「我們寧願在埃及地死在耶和華手中！那時我們坐在肉鍋旁，吃餅得飽。你們卻將我們領出來，到這曠野，要叫這全會眾都餓死啊！」

因它沒有把懷我胎的門關閉，也沒有從我的眼中隱藏患難。「我為何不出母胎而死？為何不出母腹就氣絕呢？

被刀劍刺殺的勝過因飢餓而死的；飢餓者由於缺乏田裏的出產就消瘦而亡。
