百姓就与摩西争闹，说：“给我们水喝吧！”摩西对他们说：“你们为什么与我争闹呢？你们为什么试探耶和华呢？”

摩西刚说完这些话，他们脚下的地就裂开，地开了裂口，把他们和他们的家眷，以及一切属可拉的人和财物，都吞了下去。他们和一切属他们的，都活活坠落阴间；地在他们上面又合拢起来，他们就从会众中灭亡了。在他们四围的以色列众人听见他们的叫声，就都逃跑，说：“恐怕地也要把我们吞下去了！”有火从耶和华那里出来，吞灭了那上香的二百五十人。

全会众大声喧嚷，那夜百姓哭号。以色列众人向摩西和亚伦发怨言，全会众对他们说：“我们宁愿死在埃及地，宁愿死在这旷野！

除了因可拉事件死的以外，遭瘟疫死的共有一万四千七百人。

百姓发怨言，恶言传达到耶和华的耳中。耶和华听见了就怒气发作，耶和华的火在他们中间焚烧，烧毁营的外围。

摩西所差派去窥探那地的人回来，散布有关那地的谣言，使全会众向摩西发怨言，这些散布谣言的人都遭受瘟疫，死在耶和华面前。

但肉在他们牙间还未咀嚼时，耶和华的怒气向百姓发作，用极重的灾祸击杀百姓。那地方就叫基博罗‧哈他瓦，因为他们在那里埋葬了贪欲的百姓。

以色列全会众在旷野向摩西和亚伦发怨言。以色列人对他们说：“我们宁愿在埃及地死在耶和华手中！那时我们坐在肉锅旁，吃饼得饱。你们却将我们领出来，到这旷野，要叫这全会众都饿死啊！”

因它没有把怀我胎的门关闭，也没有从我的眼中隐藏患难。“我为何不出母胎而死？为何不出母腹就气绝呢？

被刀剑刺杀的胜过因饥饿而死的；饥饿者由于缺乏田里的出产就消瘦而亡。
