「兒啊，願耶和華與你同在，使你亨通，照你的上帝耶和華的吩咐去建造祂的殿。願耶和華賜你聰明和智慧，以便你照祂的律法治理以色列。

「我一向在你們中間傳揚上帝的國，如今我知道，以後你們再也見不到我的面了。所以今天我向你們聲明，將來你們有誰滅亡，與我無關。因為上帝的整個計劃，我沒有向你們避而不宣。你們要為自己，也要為教會的群羊警醒，因為聖靈已經任命你們做群羊的監督，牧養上帝的教會。教會是主用自己的血贖回來的。我知道，在我離開以後，一定會有兇惡的豺狼闖進你們中間，殘害羊群。

「你去耶利哥對面的摩押，登上亞巴琳山區的尼波山，觀看我要賜給以色列人作產業的迦南。之後，你會死在山上，歸到你祖先那裡，如亞倫在何珥山離世歸祖一樣。

「耶和華啊，你是賜人生命的上帝，求你立一個人做會眾的首領，帶領他們或進或退，免得你的會眾像沒有牧人的羊群。」耶和華對摩西說：「嫩的兒子約書亞心裡有聖靈，你把他召來，按手在他身上，讓他站在以利亞撒祭司和全體會眾面前，當著他們的面任命他做首領，把你的權柄賜給他，使以色列全體會眾都聽從他。遇到事情，他要去以利亞撒祭司那裡，讓祭司藉著烏陵為他求問我。他和全體會眾或進或出都要聽從以利亞撒的指示。」摩西遵命而行，把約書亞召來，讓他站在以利亞撒祭司和全體會眾面前，然後照耶和華的吩咐按手在他的頭上，任命他做首領。

我要盡力使你們在我離世以後仍然常常記得這些事。

於是，耶和華的僕人摩西死在摩押，正如耶和華所言。

然而，基督永遠活著，祂的祭司職位也永不更改。所以祂能拯救那些靠著祂來到上帝面前的人，直到永遠，因為祂永遠活著，為他們祈求。

以色列人離開埃及後的第四十年五月一日，亞倫祭司遵照耶和華的吩咐上了何珥山，並在那裡離世，享年一百二十三歲。在南地的迦南人亞拉得王得知了以色列人要來的消息。以色列人從何珥山啟行，至撒摩拿紮營；從撒摩拿啟行，至普嫩紮營；從普嫩啟行，至阿伯紮營；從阿伯啟行，至摩押邊境的以耶·亞巴琳紮營；從以耶·亞巴琳啟行，至底本·迦得紮營；從底本·迦得啟行，至亞門·低比拉太音紮營；從亞門·低比拉太音啟行，至尼波對面的亞巴琳山紮營；從亞巴琳山啟行，至耶利哥對面、約旦河邊的摩押平原紮營。他們沿著約旦河在摩押平原紮營，營地從伯·耶施末一直延伸到亞伯·什亭。

摩西把約書亞叫來，當著全體以色列人的面對他說：「你要剛強勇敢！因為你要帶領百姓進入耶和華起誓賜給他們祖先的土地，把土地分給他們。耶和華必帶領你，與你同在。祂不會撇下你，也不會離棄你。不要害怕，也不要沮喪。」

耶和華賜給我許多兒子，祂在我眾子中揀選了所羅門，讓他坐以色列的王位，治理耶和華的國。耶和華對我說，『你兒子所羅門必建造我的殿宇和庭院，因為我揀選他做我的兒子，我也必做他的父親。倘若他像今天一樣繼續堅守我的誡命和典章，我必使他的國度永遠穩固。』現在，當著耶和華的會眾——全體以色列人的面，趁著我們的上帝在垂聽，你們要謹遵你們的上帝耶和華的一切誡命，以便你們可以擁有這片佳美之地，並且把它傳給你們的子孫作永遠的產業。「我兒所羅門啊，你要認識你父親的上帝耶和華，誠心樂意地事奉祂，因為祂洞察人心，知道人一切的心思意念。倘若你尋求祂，祂必讓你尋見；倘若你背棄祂，祂必永遠丟棄你。

大衛又吩咐以色列的眾首領幫助他兒子所羅門，

嫩的兒子約書亞充滿了智慧之靈，因為摩西曾把手按在他身上。以色列人都聽從他，遵守耶和華對摩西的吩咐。
