“我一向在你们中间传扬上帝的国，如今我知道，以后你们再也见不到我的面了。所以今天我向你们声明，将来你们有谁灭亡，与我无关。因为上帝的整个计划，我没有向你们避而不宣。你们要为自己，也要为教会的群羊警醒，因为圣灵已经任命你们做群羊的监督，牧养上帝的教会。教会是主用自己的血赎回来的。我知道，在我离开以后，一定会有凶恶的豺狼闯进你们中间，残害羊群。

“你去耶利哥对面的摩押，登上亚巴琳山区的尼波山，观看我要赐给以色列人作产业的迦南。之后，你会死在山上，归到你祖先那里，如亚伦在何珥山离世归祖一样。

“耶和华啊，你是赐人生命的上帝，求你立一个人做会众的首领，带领他们或进或退，免得你的会众像没有牧人的羊群。”耶和华对摩西说：“嫩的儿子约书亚心里有圣灵，你把他召来，按手在他身上，让他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前，当着他们的面任命他做首领，把你的权柄赐给他，使以色列全体会众都听从他。遇到事情，他要去以利亚撒祭司那里，让祭司借着乌陵为他求问我。他和全体会众或进或出都要听从以利亚撒的指示。”摩西遵命而行，把约书亚召来，让他站在以利亚撒祭司和全体会众面前，然后照耶和华的吩咐按手在他的头上，任命他做首领。

我要尽力使你们在我离世以后仍然常常记得这些事。

于是，耶和华的仆人摩西死在摩押，正如耶和华所言。

然而，基督永远活着，祂的祭司职位也永不更改。所以祂能拯救那些靠着祂来到上帝面前的人，直到永远，因为祂永远活着，为他们祈求。

以色列人离开埃及后的第四十年五月一日，亚伦祭司遵照耶和华的吩咐上了何珥山，并在那里离世，享年一百二十三岁。在南地的迦南人亚拉得王得知了以色列人要来的消息。以色列人从何珥山启行，至撒摩拿扎营；从撒摩拿启行，至普嫩扎营；从普嫩启行，至阿伯扎营；从阿伯启行，至摩押边境的以耶·亚巴琳扎营；从以耶·亚巴琳启行，至底本·迦得扎营；从底本·迦得启行，至亚门·低比拉太音扎营；从亚门·低比拉太音启行，至尼波对面的亚巴琳山扎营；从亚巴琳山启行，至耶利哥对面、约旦河边的摩押平原扎营。他们沿着约旦河在摩押平原扎营，营地从伯·耶施末一直延伸到亚伯·什亭。

摩西把约书亚叫来，当着全体以色列人的面对他说：“你要刚强勇敢！因为你要带领百姓进入耶和华起誓赐给他们祖先的土地，把土地分给他们。耶和华必带领你，与你同在。祂不会撇下你，也不会离弃你。不要害怕，也不要沮丧。”

耶和华赐给我许多儿子，祂在我众子中拣选了所罗门，让他坐以色列的王位，治理耶和华的国。耶和华对我说，‘你儿子所罗门必建造我的殿宇和庭院，因为我拣选他做我的儿子，我也必做他的父亲。倘若他像今天一样继续坚守我的诫命和典章，我必使他的国度永远稳固。’现在，当着耶和华的会众——全体以色列人的面，趁着我们的上帝在垂听，你们要谨遵你们的上帝耶和华的一切诫命，以便你们可以拥有这片佳美之地，并且把它传给你们的子孙作永远的产业。“我儿所罗门啊，你要认识你父亲的上帝耶和华，诚心乐意地事奉祂，因为祂洞察人心，知道人一切的心思意念。倘若你寻求祂，祂必让你寻见；倘若你背弃祂，祂必永远丢弃你。

大卫又吩咐以色列的众首领帮助他儿子所罗门，

嫩的儿子约书亚充满了智慧之灵，因为摩西曾把手按在他身上。以色列人都听从他，遵守耶和华对摩西的吩咐。
