Again they answered:“ You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them with a large and powerful army.

Again the people of Edom answered,“ We won’t let you pass through here.” Then the people of Edom marched out against them. They came with a large and powerful army.

But he said,“ You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against them with a large army and with a strong force.

But the king of Edom replied,“ Stay out! You may not pass through our land.” With that he mobilized his army and marched out against them with an imposing force.

Yet Edom insisted,“ You may not travel through.” And they came out to confront them with a large force of heavily-armed people.

But he said,“ You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against him with a heavy force and a strong hand.

Then he said,“ You shall not pass through.” So Edom came out against them with many men and with a strong hand.

And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.

Yet Edom insisted,“ You must not travel through.” And they came out to confront them with a large force of heavily-armed people.

那時，以色列派使者去以東王那裏，說：『求你讓我穿越你的地。』以東王卻不聽。以色列又照樣派使者去摩押王那裏，他也不肯。於是以色列人就住在加低斯。

耶和華如此說：「以東三番四次犯罪，怒氣不停發作，永遠懷着憤怒，拿刀追趕兄弟，絲毫不存憐憫，我必不撤銷對它的懲罰。

但是，以東對他說：「你不可從我這裏穿越！否則，我要帶刀出去攻擊你。」

西宏卻不信任以色列，不讓他們穿越他的疆界。他召集了他的眾百姓在雅雜安營，與以色列爭戰。

以掃因他父親給雅各的祝福，就怨恨雅各，心裏說：「為我父親居喪的時候近了，到那時候，我要殺我的弟弟雅各。」

因你向兄弟雅各施暴，你必蒙羞，永被剪除。當陌生人擄掠雅各的財物，當外邦人進入他的城門，為耶路撒冷抽籤分取財物的日子，你竟站在一旁，像與他們同夥。你兄弟遭難的日子，你不該瞪着眼看；猶大人被滅的日子，你不該幸災樂禍；他們遭難的日子，你不該說狂傲的話。我子民遭災的日子，你不該進他們的城門；他們遭災的日子，你不該瞪着眼看他們受苦；他們遭災的日子，你不該伸手搶他們的財物。他們遭難的日子，你不該站在岔路口剪除他們逃脫的人，你不該交出他們的倖存者。耶和華的日子臨近萬國；你所做的，人也必向你照樣做，你的報應必歸到自己頭上。

因為你永懷仇恨，在以色列人遭遇災難、罪孽到了盡頭時，把他們交給刀劍，所以主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，我必使你遭遇血的報應，血必追趕你；你既不恨惡血，血必追趕你。我要使西珥山荒涼荒廢，把來往經過的人從它那裏剪除。我要使西珥山佈滿被殺的人。被刀殺的要倒在小山和山谷，並一切的溪水中。我必使你永遠荒涼，使你的城鎮無人居住，你們就知道我是耶和華。「因為你曾說『這二國、這二邦必歸我，我們必得為業』，其實耶和華仍在那裏；所以主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，我必照你因仇恨向他們發的怒氣和嫉妒對待你；我審判你的時候，要在他們中間顯明自己。

我願和平，當我發言，他們卻要戰爭。

使者回到雅各那裏，說：「我們到了你哥哥以掃那裏。他正迎着你來，並且有四百人和他一起。」
