法老吩咐他的眾百姓說：「把所生的每一個男孩都丟到尼羅河裏去，讓所有的女孩存活。」

於是埃及人派監工管轄他們，用勞役苦待他們。他們為法老建造儲貨城，就是比東和蘭塞。可是越苦待他們，他們就越發增多，更加繁衍，埃及人就因以色列人愁煩。埃及人嚴厲地強迫以色列人做工，使他們因苦工而生活痛苦；無論是和泥，是做磚，是做田間各樣的工，一切的工埃及人都嚴厲地對待他們。

「你們為希伯來婦人接生，臨盆的時候要注意，若是男的，就把他殺了，若是女的，就讓她活。」

法老的監工擊打他們所派的以色列工頭，說：「為甚麼昨天和今天你們沒有按照以前做磚的數目，完成你們的工作呢？」

他用詭計待我們的宗族，苦待我們的祖宗，強迫他們丟棄嬰孩，使嬰孩不能存活。
