因為人的忿怒並不能成全神的義。

他們到了基頓禾場的時候，因為牛失蹄絆倒，烏撒就伸手扶住約櫃。於是耶和華向烏撒發怒，因為烏撒伸手把約櫃扶住，所以神把他擊殺，他就在那裡死在神面前。

於是掃羅對撒母耳說：“我犯了罪了，我違背了耶和華的命令和你的話，因為我害怕眾人，聽從了他們的話。

“你要拿著杖，和你的哥哥亞倫聚集會眾，在他們眼前，吩咐磐石出水；這樣你就可以使磐石流出水來，給會眾和他們的牲畜喝。”

你為甚麼沒有聽從耶和華的話，急於奪取戰利品，作了耶和華看為惡的事呢？”

我曾在曠野，在乾旱之地，認識你。

我吩咐你們的一切，都要教導他們遵守。這樣，我就常常與你們同在，直到這世代的終結。”

撒母耳到了掃羅那裡，掃羅對他說：“願耶和華賜福給你！我已經執行了耶和華的命令。”撒母耳說：“我耳中聽見有羊叫牛鳴的聲音，到底是甚麼呢？”

他就對那從猶大來的神人喊叫，說：“耶和華這樣說：‘你既然違背了耶和華的命令，沒有謹守耶和華你的神吩咐你的誡命，反倒回來，在耶和華吩咐你不可吃飯喝水的地方，吃了飯喝了水，因此，你的屍體不能入葬你列祖的墳墓裡。’”吃了飯喝了水之後，老先知為他帶回來的先知備驢。他就去了；在路上有一隻獅子遇見了他，就把他咬死了。他的屍體被丟在路上，驢子站在屍體旁邊，獅子也站在屍體旁邊。

他使水從磐石中湧出來，使水好像江河一般流下。

亞倫的兒子拿答和亞比戶各拿著自己的香爐，盛上火，加上香，在耶和華面前獻上平常的火，是耶和華沒有命令他們獻的。

那時大衛說：“神的約櫃，除了利未人以外，沒有人可以抬，因為耶和華揀選了他們抬神的約櫃，並且永遠事奉他。”

先前沒有你們，耶和華我們的神就擊打我們，因為我們沒有按照定例尋求他。”
