Wasn’t he actually speaking to us? But we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ.Don’t you realize that those who work in the temple get their meals from the offerings brought to the temple? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings.In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it.

Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.For the Scripture says,“ You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place,“ Those who work deserve their pay!”

Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay.

Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.

The only thing I failed to do, which I do in the other churches, was to become a financial burden to you. Please forgive me for this wrong!

“ You must set aside a tithe of your crops— one tenth of all the crops you harvest each year.Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship— the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored— and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the Lord your God.

Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.
