爾諭以色列人、由之取杖、按宗族之牧伯、取杖十二、宗族各一、書名其上、

告以色列族云、爾各支派牧伯、取杖十有二、書名其上、支派各一、

爾告以色列人云、各支派當給爾一杖、乃諸支派之牧伯所當給、共十二杖、當書各牧伯之名於其杖上、或作告以色列人當自各支派取一杖即取自各支派牧伯共十二杖於各杖上書各牧伯之名

“ Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff.

“ Speak to the Israelites. Get 12 walking sticks from them. Get one from the leader of each of Israel’s tribes. Write the name of each man on his walking stick.

“ Speak to the people of Israel, and get from them staffs, one for each fathers’ house, from all their chiefs according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. Write each man’s name on his staff,

“ Tell the people of Israel to bring you twelve wooden staffs, one from each leader of Israel’s ancestral tribes, and inscribe each leader’s name on his staff.

“ Speak to the Israelites and take one staff from them for each ancestral tribe, twelve staffs from all the leaders of their tribes. Write each man’s name on his staff.

“ Speak to the sons of Israel, and obtain from them a staff for each father’s household: twelve staffs, from all their leaders for their fathers’ households. You shall write each man’s name on his staff,

“ Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses— twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

A fire has gone out from its branch; it has consumed its shoot and its fruit. No strong branch was left in it, nor a scepter to rule.’ This is a lament song, and has become a lament song.”

The standard of the camp of the Judahites set out first according to their companies, and over his company was Nahshon son of Amminadab.Over the company of the tribe of Issacharites was Nathanel son of Zuar,and over the company of the tribe of the Zebulunites was Elion son of Helon.Then the tabernacle was dismantled, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle.The standard of the camp of Reuben set out according to their companies; over his company was Elizur son of Shedeur.Over the company of the tribe of the Simeonites was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai,and over the company of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel.And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary; the tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud.Over the company of the tribe of the Manassehites was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur,and over the company of the tribe of Benjaminites was Abidan son of Gideoni.The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.Over the company of the tribe of the Asherites was Pagiel son of Ocran,and over the company of the tribe of the Naphtalites was Ahira son of Enan.

Shepherd your people with your shepherd’s rod, the flock that belongs to you, the one that lives alone in a thicket, in the midst of a pastureland. Allow them to graze in Bashan and Gilead, as they did in the old days.

“‘ For testing will come, and what will happen when the scepter, which the sword despises, is no more? declares the sovereign LORD.’

You will also take in your hand this staff, with which you will do the signs.”

Now these are the names of the men who are to help you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;from the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur;from Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran;from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.”These were the ones chosen from the community, leaders of their ancestral tribes. They were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

The LORD said to him,“ What is that in your hand?” He said,“ A staff.”

Indeed, the scepter of a wicked king will not settle upon the allotted land of the godly. Otherwise the godly might do what is wrong.

The LORD extends your dominion from Zion. Rule in the midst of your enemies!

It is sharpened for slaughter, it is polished to flash like lightning!“‘ Should we rejoice in the scepter of my son? No! The sword despises every tree!

“ Now those who will be camping on the east, toward the sunrise, are the divisions of the camp of Judah under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.Those numbered in his division are 74,600.Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar.Those numbered in his division are 54,400.Next will be the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon.Those numbered in his division are 57,400.All those numbered of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, are 186,400. They will travel at the front.“ On the south will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur.Those numbered in his division are 46,500.Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.Those numbered in his division are 59,300.Next will be the tribe of Gad. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Deuel.Those numbered in his division are 45,650.All those numbered of the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, are 151,450. They will travel second.“ Then the tent of meeting with the camp of the Levites will travel in the middle of the camps. They will travel in the same order as they camped, each in his own place under his standard.“ On the west will be the divisions of the camp of Ephraim under their standard. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama son of Amihud.Those numbered in his division are 40,500.Next to them will be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.Those numbered in his division are 32,200.Next will be the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni.Those numbered in his division are 35,400.All those numbered of the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, are 108,100. They will travel third.“ On the north will be the divisions of the camp of Dan, under their standards. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.Those numbered in his division are 62,700.Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Asher. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel son of Ocran.Those numbered in his division are 41,500.Next will be the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan.Those numbered in his division are 53,400.

“ As for you, son of man, take one branch, and write on it,‘ For Judah, and for the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another branch and write on it,‘ For Joseph, the branch of Ephraim and all the house of Israel associated with him.’Join them as one stick; they will be as one in your hand.When your people say to you,‘ Will you not tell us what these things mean?’tell them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: Look, I am about to take the branch of Joseph which is in the hand of Ephraim and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and I will place them on the stick of Judah, and make them into one stick– they will be one in my hand.’The sticks you write on will be in your hand in front of them.

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him.
