Joshua, the son of Nun, tore his clothes. So did Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. Joshua and Caleb were two of the men who had checked out the land.

都一定不得進入我所舉手起誓叫你們居住的地；惟獨耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞才得以進去。

雅各便撕裂衣裳，腰間加上麻布，為他兒子哀悼了許多日子。

屬以法蓮支派的是嫩的兒子何西亞；

迦勒在摩西面前叫人民安靜下來、說：『我們立刻上去、取得那地吧！我們足能勝過它。』

惟獨嫩的兒子約書亞和耶孚尼的兒子迦勒、在那些去窺探那地的人之中的、仍然活着。

如便回到坑邊，見約瑟不在坑裏就撕裂衣服；

屬猶大支派的是耶孚尼的兒子迦勒；

但是我的僕人迦勒、因他另有一種精神、他滿心滿意地跟從我，我就要領他進他所去過的地；他的後裔也必取得那地為產業。

約伯便起來，撕裂外袍，剪了頭髮，伏在地上敬拜，

耶弗他一看見她，就撕裂衣服說：『哀哉，我女兒呀，你弄得我一塌糊塗了；你，你把我搞得頂壞了；我，我既向永恆主開口許願，我不能收回呀。』

大衛對約押和跟隨的眾民說：『你們要撕裂衣服，腰束麻布，在押尼珥前面號咷哀哭；大衛王也在屍床後面跟着。

約書亞便撕裂衣裳；他和以色列長老、在永恆主的櫃前面、臉伏於地、直到晚上，也把塵土撒在頭上。

祭司長就撕開衣裳說：『他說了僭妄的話了；我們還需要見證人麼？你看，如今你們聽見僭妄的話了；

他們就撕裂衣裳，各人把馱子抬在驢上，回城去了。

永恆主發神諭說：『如今雖如此，你們還要全心全意來歸向我，以禁食哀哭及號咷來返回。你們要撕裂的是心，倒不是衣服。』要回歸永恆主你們的上帝；因為他有恩惠有憐憫，他不輕易發怒，而有豐盛的堅愛，他並且能改變心意、不降災禍。
