以色列人犯了罪，不但越犯了我的約、我所吩咐他們守的約，反而取了該被毁滅歸神之物；又偷竊，又欺詐，私放在自己的物件裏。因此以色列人在他們仇敵面前立不住，在仇敵面前轉背逃跑，因為他們成了該被毁滅歸神的。你們若不把該被毁滅歸神之物從你們中間消滅掉，我就不再和你們同在了。

艾城的人擊殺了他們約三十六人；從城門前追趕他們、直到示巴琳，在下坡擊敗了他們；人民就心灰意懶、如水一樣。
