窺察者二人、嫩之子約書亞、耶孚尼子迦勒、自裂其衣、告以色列會眾曰、我過其地而窺察之、其土甚美、產乳與蜜、如耶和華悅我、必導我至彼、以地賜我。莫叛耶和華、莫畏斯土之民、我得耶和華庇佑、彼無所扞衛、必為我並吞、故勿危懼、

時猶大支派至吉甲有基尼洗人耶孚尼子迦勒、告約書亞曰、昔耶和華諭其僕摩西、論爾我之事、爾知之矣。其時我年四十、耶和華僕摩西自迦鐵巴尼亞遣我、窺察斯土、我誠心以復命。偕行者使民喪膽、惟我竭忠遵從我上帝耶和華。當時摩西誓我曰、爾既竭忠遵從我上帝耶和華、爾足所履之地、爾可得之、爰及子孫、永為爾業。今我尚存、皆出耶和華所賜、自耶和華諭摩西、歷以色列族遨遊於野之時、四十五年、踐其前言、今我年已八十有五。我力強健、與摩西遣我之時無異、當時我出入戰鬥、氣盛力強、今亦如是。爾素聞亞納族居於是山、其邑垣高大、今求爾以耶和華所許之山賜我、如蒙耶和華祐我、則可逐之、踐其前言。約書亞為耶孚尼子迦勒祝嘏、以希伯崙賜之為業。緣基尼洗人、耶孚尼子迦勒竭忠、遵從以色列族上帝耶和華、故得希伯崙為業、至今尚存。

蓋耶和華曾有言曰、其人必死於曠野、故靡有孑遺。所尚存者、惟耶孚尼子迦勒、嫩之子約書亞而已。

惟耶孚尼子迦勒、竭忠從我、則可得見、其所履之地、我將錫之、爰及子孫。

勿效取悅於人者、第目前服役、必效基督僕、專心遵上帝志、

列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列之上帝耶和華與、願使爾民恆懷斯心、以奉事爾、

耶和華兮、我盡心以呼籲、望爾垂聽、我則守爾禮儀兮、

我盡心遵爾法度、必不蒙羞兮。○

民既誠心樂輸、獻於耶和華、則盡歡忭。大闢王亦欣喜不勝、

爾小子、心歸乎我、目注乎道。

爾當盡心盡意盡力、愛爾上帝耶和華。

於耶和華前、雖行善而心不誠。

既至見上帝有恩於彼、則喜、勸眾堅心事主、毋倦、

出埃及之有眾、自二十歲以上者、既不竭忠從我、故所誓亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各之地必不能得、惟基尼洗人、耶孚尼子迦勒、嫩之子約書亞、竭忠從我、則可得焉。

民怨於摩西前、迦勒止之曰、我儕能克其地、當往取之。
