那時猶大人挨近前來、在吉甲見約書亞，有基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒對約書亞說：『永恆主在加低斯巴尼亞對神人摩西所說關於我和你的話、你是知道的。永恆主的僕人摩西從加低斯巴尼亞打發我來偵探這地，那時我四十歲；我盡心裏所有的向他報告。然而同我上去的那些族弟兄卻使人民膽戰心驚；而我則滿心滿懷跟從永恆主我的上帝。當日摩西起誓說：「你腳所踏的地一定要歸你和你子孫為產業到永遠，因為你滿心滿懷跟從永恆主我的上帝。」現在你看，自從永恆主對摩西說了這句話以後、永恆主便照他所應許的使我活了這四十五年，就是以色列人在曠野漂流的時間；現在你看我，我今日已是個八十五歲人了。我今日還很強壯，像摩西打發我去那天一樣；無論是爭戰，是出入，那時我力氣怎樣，現在我力氣還是怎樣。現在求你將永恆主當日說過的這山地給我；因為你當日也聽說那裏有亞衲人、和闊大堅固的城；或者永恆主和我同在，我就把他們趕出。』於是約書亞給迦勒祝福，將希伯崙給耶孚尼的兒子迦勒為產業。因此希伯崙給基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒為產業、直到今日；因為他滿心滿懷跟從永恆主以色列的上帝。

因為永恆主曾經說到他們、說：『他們一定必死在曠野。』所以除了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒、和嫩的兒子約書亞以外、他們中間連一個人也沒有留下來。

惟有耶孚尼的兒子迦勒、他可以看見；我並且要將他所踏過的地賜給他和他的子孫，因為他滿心滿懷地跟從我永恆主。」

不要單用眼見的服事像只討人喜歡的，乃要像基督的僕人、從心裏行上帝的旨意。

永恆主我們列祖亞伯拉罕以撒以色列的上帝啊，求你保守這一點：使你人民心裏永遠存着這樣思想的意念，求你使他們立定心意歸向你。

永恆主啊，我一心呼求你，求你應我；你的律例我要恪守着。

願我的心純全無虧於你的律例，使我不至於羞愧。

眾民就因這些人甘心自願的奉獻而歡喜，因為他們都全心自願地奉獻與永恆主；大衛王也大大歡喜快樂。

弟子啊，要將你的心給予我；你的眼要喜悅我的道路。

你要全心、全意、全力愛永恆主你的上帝。

亞瑪謝行永恆主所看為對的事，只是心不純全。

巴拿巴到了那裏，看見上帝的恩，就歡喜，又鼓勵眾人以心中的定志緊依附着主。

「凡由埃及上來、從二十歲和以上的人、斷不得以看見我對亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許的土地，因為他們沒有滿心滿懷地跟從我。惟獨基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒、和嫩的兒子約書亞可以看見，因為他們滿心滿懷地跟從永恆主。」

迦勒在摩西面前叫人民安靜下來、說：『我們立刻上去、取得那地吧！我們足能勝過它。』

無論你們作甚麼，都要從心裏去作，當作是為主而作，不是為人作，
