那時，猶大人來到吉甲見約書亞，有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒對約書亞說：「耶和華在加低斯‧巴尼亞指着我與你對神人摩西所說的話，你都知道了。耶和華的僕人摩西從加低斯‧巴尼亞打發我窺探這地，那時我正四十歲；我按着心意回報他。然而，同我上去的眾弟兄使百姓的心消化；但我專心跟從耶和華－我的神。當日摩西起誓說：『你腳所踏之地定要歸你和你的子孫永遠為業，因為你專心跟從耶和華－我的神。』自從耶和華對摩西說這話的時候，耶和華照他所應許的使我存活這四十五年；其間以色列人在曠野行走。看哪，現今我八十五歲了，我還是強壯，像摩西打發我去的那天一樣；無論是爭戰，是出入，我的力量那時如何，現在還是如何。求你將耶和華那日應許我的這山地給我；那裏有亞衲族人，並寬大堅固的城，你也曾聽見了。或者耶和華照他所應許的與我同在，我就把他們趕出去。」於是約書亞為耶孚尼的兒子迦勒祝福，將希伯崙給他為業。所以希伯崙作了基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒的產業，直到今日，因為他專心跟從耶和華－以色列的神。

因為耶和華論到他們說：「他們必要死在曠野。」所以，除了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞以外，連一個人也沒有存留。

惟有耶孚尼的兒子迦勒必得看見，並且我要將他所踏過的地賜給他和他的子孫，因為他專心跟從我。』

不要只在眼前事奉，像是討人喜歡的，要像基督的僕人，從心裏遵行神的旨意。

耶和華－我們列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神啊，求你使你的民常存這樣的心思意念，堅定他們的心歸向你，

耶和華啊，我一心呼籲你；求你應允我，我必謹守你的律例！

願我的心在你的律例上完全，使我不致蒙羞。

因這些人誠心樂意獻給耶和華，百姓就歡喜，大衛王也大大歡喜。

我兒，要將你的心歸我；你的眼目也要喜悅我的道路。

你要盡心、盡性、盡力愛耶和華－你的神。

亞瑪謝行耶和華眼中看為正的事，只是心不專誠。

他到了那裏，看見神所賜的恩就歡喜，勸勉眾人，立定心志，恆久靠主。

『凡從埃及上來、二十歲以外的人斷不得看見我對亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許之地，因為他們沒有專心跟從我。惟有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞可以看見，因為他們專心跟從我。』

迦勒在摩西面前安撫百姓，說：「我們立刻上去得那地吧！我們足能得勝。」

無論做甚麼，都要從心裏做，像是給主做的，不是給人做的，
