猶大人來到吉甲約書亞那裡，基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒對約書亞說：“耶和華在加低斯．巴尼亞對神人摩西所說關於你和我的話，你是知道的。耶和華的僕人摩西從加低斯．巴尼亞派我去窺探這地的時候，我正四十歲；我照著我心裡所想的向他報告。可是，與我一同上去的眾兄弟卻使人民的心驚懼，我卻完全順從耶和華我的神。那天摩西起誓說：‘你的腳踏過的地都必歸你和你的子孫作產業，直到永遠，因為你完全順從耶和華我的神。’現在你看，自從耶和華對摩西說了這話以後，耶和華照著所應許的，使我活了這四十五年，就是以色列人在曠野行走的時期；現在你看，我今日已經是八十五歲了。今日我還是強壯，像摩西派我去的那天一樣；無論是作戰，或是出入，那時我的力量怎樣，現在我的力量還是怎樣。現在求你把耶和華那日所應許的這山地賜給我；因為那天你也曾聽見那裡有亞衲人，又有寬大堅固的城；也許耶和華與我同在，我就可以把他們趕出去，正如耶和華所應許的。”於是約書亞給迦勒祝福，把希伯崙賜給了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒作產業。因此，希伯崙成了基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒的產業，直到今日；因為他完全順從耶和華以色列的神。

因為耶和華論到他們曾經說過：“他們必死在曠野。”所以除了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞以外，連一個也沒有剩下。

只有耶孚尼的兒子迦勒可以看見；並且我要把他踏過的地賜給他和他的子孫，因為他專心跟從了我耶和華。’

作事不要只作給人看，像那些討人歡心的一樣，卻要像基督的僕人，從心裡遵行神的旨意，

耶和華我們列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神啊，求你永遠保守這一件事，就是使你的子民常存這心思意念，堅定他們的心歸向你。

耶和華啊！我一心呼求你，求你應允我；我必遵守你的律例。

願我的心在你的律例上無可指摘，使我不至蒙羞。

人民因這些人自願奉獻而歡喜，因為他們一心樂意奉獻給耶和華，大衛王也非常歡喜。

我兒，把你的心給我；你的眼目要關注我的道路。

你要全心、全性、全力愛耶和華你的神。

亞瑪謝行耶和華看為正的事，只是心不專一。

他到了那裡，看見神所施的恩，就很歡喜，勸勉眾人堅心靠主。

‘從埃及上來二十歲及以上的人，必不得看見我對亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許的地，因為他們沒有專心跟從我。唯獨基尼洗人耶孚尼的兒子迦勒，和嫩的兒子約書亞可以看見，因為他們專心跟從耶和華。’

迦勒在摩西面前使眾人鎮靜，說：“我們立刻上去，佔領那地吧！因為我們必能得勝。”

無論你們作甚麼，都要從心裡去作，像是為主作的，不是為人作的，
