They will never even see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have treated me with contempt will ever see it.

not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it.

So not even one of them will ever see the land I promised to give to their people of long ago. The person who has not respected me will never see it.

‘ Of all those I rescued from Egypt, no one who is twenty years old or older will ever see the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for they have not obeyed me wholeheartedly.

Not one person on this list had been among those listed in the previous registration taken by Moses and Aaron in the wilderness of Sinai.

But I took a solemn oath against them in the wilderness. I swore I would not bring them into the land I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful place on earth.

If you go ahead on your own, you will be crushed by your enemies.’“ This is what I told you, but you would not listen. Instead, you again rebelled against the Lord’s command and arrogantly went into the hill country to fight.But the Amorites who lived there came out against you like a swarm of bees. They chased and battered you all the way from Seir to Hormah.Then you returned and wept before the Lord, but he refused to listen.

And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness?And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed him?

So in my anger I took an oath:‘ They will never enter my place of rest.’”

Therefore, he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the wilderness,

For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said,“ In my anger I took an oath:‘ They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.

You made their descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and brought them into the land you had promised to their ancestors.
