那時候有巨人在地上，後來也有；上帝的兒子們和人的女子們交合，生了孩子。那些人就是古代的勇士，有名的人物。

利乏音人所剩下的只有巴珊王噩。看哪，他的床是鐵床，按照人肘的度量，長九肘，寬四肘，現今不是在亞捫人的拉巴嗎？」

那裏的百姓是亞衲族人，又高又壯，是你所知道的；你也聽說過：『誰能在亞衲族人面前站立得住呢？』

上帝坐在地的穹窿之上，地上的居民有如蚱蜢。他鋪張穹蒼如幔子，展開諸天如可住的帳棚。

先前，以米人住在那裏，百姓又大又多，像亞衲人一樣高大。

他們從尼革夫上去，到了希伯崙。在那裏有亞衲族的亞希幔人、示篩人和撻買人。希伯崙的建造比埃及的瑣安早七年。

從非利士營中出來一個挑戰的人，名叫歌利亞，是迦特人，身高六肘一虎口。他頭戴銅盔，身穿鎧甲，甲重五千舍客勒銅。他腿上有銅護膝，兩肩之中背負銅矛。他的槍桿粗如織布機的軸，槍頭的鐵重六百舍客勒。有一個拿盾牌的人走在他前面。

又有一次，他們在迦特打仗。那裏有一個身材高大的人，雙手各有六根手指，雙腳各有六根腳趾，共有二十四根；他也是巨人族的後裔。他向以色列罵陣，大衛的哥哥示米亞的兒子約拿單就殺了他。這四個人是迦特巨人族的後裔，都仆倒在大衛和他僕人的手下。

他又殺了一個身高五肘的埃及人；埃及人手裏拿着槍，槍桿粗如織布機的軸。比拿雅只拿着棍子下到他那裏去，從埃及人手裏奪過槍來，用那槍殺死了他。

非利士人觀看，見了大衛，就藐視他，因為他年輕，面色紅潤，容貌俊美。
