「以色列啊，你當聽！你今日要過約旦河，進去趕出比你強大的國民，得着廣大堅固、高得頂天的城邑。那民是亞衲族的人，又大又高，是你所知道的；也曾聽見有人指着他們說：『誰能在亞衲族人面前站立得住呢？』

我們上哪裏去呢？我們的弟兄使我們的心消化，說那地的民比我們又大又高，城邑又廣大又堅固，高得頂天，並且我們在那裏看見亞衲族的人。』

我們在那裏看見亞衲族人，就是偉人；他們是偉人的後裔。據我們看，自己就如蚱蜢一樣；據他們看，我們也是如此。」

先前，有以米人住在那裏，民數眾多，身體高大，像亞衲人一樣。這以米人像亞衲人；也算為利乏音人；摩押人稱他們為以米人。

迦勒就從那裏趕出亞衲族的三個族長，就是示篩、亞希幔、撻買；

這些城都有堅固的高牆，有門有閂。此外還有許多無城牆的鄉村。

在以色列人的地沒有留下一個亞衲族人，只在迦薩、迦特，和亞實突有留下的。

那民眾多，身體高大，像亞衲人一樣，但耶和華從亞捫人面前除滅他們，亞捫人就得了他們的地，接着居住。

他們從南地上去，到了希伯崙；在那裏有亞衲族人亞希幔、示篩、撻買。（原來希伯崙城被建造比埃及的瑣安城早七年。）他們到了以實各谷，從那裏砍了葡萄樹的一枝，上頭有一掛葡萄，兩個人用槓擡着，又帶了些石榴和無花果來。（

以色列人照摩西所說的，將希伯崙給了迦勒；迦勒就從那裏趕出亞衲族的三個族長。
