「以色列人啊，你們要聽！今天你們要過約旦河，去趕出那些比你們強大的民族。他們住在城牆高聳入雲的大城裡，是長得高大威猛的亞衲人。你們瞭解他們，也聽人說過，『誰能抵擋亞衲人呢？』

我們怎能上去呢？那些弟兄的報告令我們膽戰心驚，他們說那裡的人比我們高大，城邑雄偉，城牆高達雲霄，還有亞衲人在那裡。』

我們在那裡看見了亞衲人的子孫，他們是巨人的後裔，我們跟他們相比就像蚱蜢，他們看我們也像蚱蜢。」

「從前以米人住在亞珥，他們人數眾多，像亞衲人一樣身材高大。以米人同亞衲人一樣也被稱為利乏音人，但摩押人稱他們為以米人。

迦勒趕走了住在那裡的亞衲族的三個族長，即示篩、亞希幔和撻買，

這些城邑圍牆高聳，門閂牢固。我們還佔領了許多沒有城牆的鄉村。

除了在迦薩、迦特和亞實突有一些殘餘之外，以色列境內沒有亞衲人了。

利乏音族人數眾多，像亞衲人一樣身材高大。耶和華消滅了他們，讓亞捫人佔領他們的土地，住在那裡。

他們經南地到達希伯崙。希伯崙城比埃及的鎖安城還要早建七年，那裡住著亞衲人的子孫亞希幔、示篩和撻買。他們來到以實各谷，在那裡砍下一根葡萄枝，上面有一串葡萄，由兩個人用杠子抬著，又採了一些石榴和無花果。

照摩西的吩咐，迦勒得到了希伯崙。他把亞衲三族的人從那裡趕走。
