“ Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”

爾眾至我前謂我曰、我儕不如先遣人為我窺探其地、返而告我、何道可行、何邑可入、我以斯言為善、於爾中選十二人、各支派一人、遂前往登山、至以實各谷、窺探其地、手執其地之果品、攜下至我所、復於我曰、主我天主所賜我之地、美地也、

每一支派擇一牧伯助之、

在以色列人中、選有才德者、立為民之首、為千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長、

我遂於爾支派諸長中、選有智慧之人、眾所識者、立為官長、千夫長、百夫長、五十夫長、十夫長、治理爾諸支派、

嫩之子約書亞由什亭遣二偵者、曰、往窺探斯地及耶利哥、二人遂往入妓家而宿、妓名拉哈、或告耶利哥王曰、今夜有以色列二人來此、以窺斯地、耶利哥王遣人見拉哈曰、已入爾家之人、當攜之出、蓋彼來此欲窺探全地、婦將二人匿之、遂曰、果有人至我所、我未知從何來、既昏、邑門將閉時、其人出矣、不知何往、速追必及、蓋拉哈引二人上屋之平頂、有麻秸堆於頂上、遂藏之於其中、耶利哥人往約但津追之、追者既出、邑門遂閉、二人未寢、婦上屋頂、謂之曰、主已將此地賜爾、為我所知、我儕悉懼爾、斯地一切居民、皆緣爾喪膽、爾出伊及時、主為爾使紅海水涸、爾如何待約但東之亞摩利二王西宏及噩、即爾所殲滅者、此皆為我所聞、我聞之心怯、各緣爾之故、魂不附體、魂不附體或作志氣盡墜蓋主爾之天主乃上天下地之天主、今我待爾以仁慈、爾當指主而誓、亦以仁慈待我父家、並示我以誠信之證、必存留我父母兄弟姊妹及凡所有、救我生命、免於死亡、二人對曰、爾若不洩我此事、則我以己命代爾、迨主以斯地賜我民時、我必待爾以仁慈誠實、於是婦以繩縋二人由牖而下、蓋其室在城垣、居於城垣上、謂之曰、當往於山、在彼自匿三日、恐追者遇爾、迨追者返、然後前行、前行原文作行爾路二人對曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而不失信、我儕至斯地時、爾即以此紅繩、繫於縋我之牖、當集爾父母兄弟、與爾父之眷屬、悉入爾室、凡出爾家門往外者、若遇害、死由自取、死由自取原文作其血必歸于其首我儕無辜、惟與爾在家者、有人害之、罪則歸我、罪則歸我原文作其血必歸我之首若爾洩我斯事、則爾使我所發之誓、與我無涉、婦曰、可如爾言以行、遂遣之去、乃以紅繩繫於牖、二人至於山、居三日、待追者返、追者一路尋求不遇、二人下山而歸、渡河、至嫩之子約書亞所、以所遇之事悉告之、又謂約書亞曰、主必以其全地付於我手、其地一切居民、皆緣我喪膽、

每一支派中、各當有一人助爾、皆為本支派之族長、

主諭摩西曰、爾招集以色列耆老七十人、即爾所知為民之長老有司、攜至會幕前、使之在彼與爾偕立、
