米利暗和亞倫、為了摩西所娶的古實女子的緣故就說了摩西的壞話，說摩西娶了古實的女子為妻。

以掃見以撒已經給雅各祝福，又打發他往巴旦亞蘭去、從那裏娶妻，並且給他祝福時吩咐他說：『不要娶迦南的女子為妻』；又見雅各聽從了他父親和母親，往巴旦亞蘭去了；以掃就看出、在他父親以撒眼中、迦南的女子父親是不愜意的。以掃便往以實瑪利那裏去，在他兩個妻子以外、又娶了瑪哈拉為妻：瑪哈拉是亞伯拉罕的兒子以實瑪利的女兒，是尼拜約的妹妹。

寡婦、或是被離婚的、或是被污辱的、做妓女的、他都不可以娶；他只要娶他族人中的處女為妻。
